just dropped in one of my old HDD's for a bit of storage and thought maybe i should use it as a backup drive

ok so windows told me what to do did some stuff and said my drive was backed up onto the one i just installed about 30GIGs worth of data it put on there.

my question how does this all work i've never backed up anything in my life apart from family photos onto cd.

if my comp gets fubar will windows try and sort it out from the back-up drive or am i missing the point completely lol

any help would be gr8

You have never made backups? You can backup using windows Backup untlity to create an image of disk/partitions (depending on what OS you have and the version). If that disk fails you can install a new one, load in the windows install disk and re-install from your backup image. Job done.

Vista

Win7

If you're only interested in backing up your data, then SyncBackSe or Synctoy ar great ways to schedule your backups.
