How would i go about moving the e-mails from my inbox in Outlook, on my XP machine, to the inbox in Windows Mail, on my Vista x64 machine!?! Can i do it without linking the two computers and Importing?

Cheers

The OUTLOOK EXPRESS Fodlers etc are kept in a location, kind of simlar to this one:-

C:\ Documents and Settings\ (USERNAME)\ Local Settings\ Application Data\ Identities\ (RIDICULOUSNUMBERS)\ Microsoft\ Outlook Express

And it should be full of files that are obvious what they are and end with .DBX

If you save these to a CD or DVD, and then simply copy the lot back into the new Outlook express folder on the other machine and your data will all go over..

This does not include the ADDRESS BOOK,

C:\ Documents and Settings\ (USER)\ Application Data\ Microsoft\ Address Book \ USERNAME.WAB ( Windows Address Book )

nor does it do the User Accounts.

For the user Accounts, the only way I know is to export the account info... This will then save a .AIF file for each account.

However, this way, I have several EMail addresses, and I sort my EMails out into various folders, friends, family, Atari, Overclockers, business and so on wioth a tons of different INBOXes, plus I have never deleted a single EMail since the day I forst got onto the internet ( Thats a lot ) except of course useless junk and spam, and it takes me just a few seconds to backup and restore it.

Anyhting you are not sure of, Im wrong on, or you need more info on, let me know.

Cheers Fat Racoon. ;)

I'm not sure this is going to work for me, as i have Outlook (not express). I've tried exporting, but Windows Mail in Vista is saying that MAPI is not installed on the computer, or an error occurred while initializing it!?!

I'll try exporting to Outlook Express, then exporting it again from there... :D

For Outlook, you can copy the "Outlook.pst" file which normally sits in:
c:\Documents and Settings\Username\Local Settings\Application Data\Microsoft\Outlook
I take a copy of that whenever reloading windows, I then re-install, setup the mailboxes/email accounts and then replace the pst file with my backup file.

Don't know if you have already tried exporting to OE or not, but just wanted to say :)

I'll have to try that, as OE didn't help, as it won't export to a file!?! That's pretty stupid... It's actually giving me second thoughts about using Windows Mail; i might just put Outlook on after all.. :(
