Hi All,

Not sure if I'm posting in the wrong section or not (please move if required).

I have been rolling out a number of replacement Berrys to users recently. Normally they want media files etc off their old device so I do a backup using the BB Desktop Manager. I've done this around 10 times in the past but today stumbled across a bit of a problem.

Did the back-up as normal, however when It came to restoring the backup to the new device, all of the media files were missing.

Does anybody know if there is a way of retrieving (old device is kaput!) the media files from the .bbb backup file? Or has anybody else even experienced such things? I've used a bit of google fu but can't really find anything that relates exactly to my problem... nor give me a solution!

BB Desktop v7.1.0.37 and the device in question is a Bold 9790.
Recently upgraded from BES 4.1.7 to 5.0.4

thanks in advance!

Are you sure the media isn't stored on the media card? If so then just take it out of the old device and put it in the new phone.

More likely it will be your BES policy blocking certain things from being restored.

Certainly not the media card, as it didn't have one.

I'll have a quick review of the policy! Thanks for the feedback!

Anymore ideas?

This *might* help if it is your BES IT Policy causing issues.

Restoring Read-Only Databases On Blackberry Smartphone

SYMPTOMS

When trying to restore items using Desktop Manager on a Blackberry device you may see the message `dimmed entries are read-only databases and cannot be restored` and these database items will be greyed out.

CAUSE

This is caused by the Blackberry device being part of a BES server and `Wireless Sync` is enabled. This means the Desktop [SYNC] service book has locked those items on the device from being restored.

RESOLUTOIN

The resolution is to `trick` the device into thinking it is not controlled by a BES server. Follow these steps:

1. Disable `Mobile Network` on the device. (This can be found under Manage Connections on the home screen).

2. Navigate to Options > Advanced Options > Service Books

3. Within the Service Book menu you need to highlight the Desktop [SYNC] service book and then click the `menu` key and select `delete`. DO NOT EXIT THIS MENU!!!

4. Connect the Blackberry to Desktop Manager and then click on Device > Restore

5. Select your backup file and then choose `custom` or `manual` restore. You will now be able to select the items that were greyed out before.

6. Once you have restored the items disconnect the cable and on the Blackberry press the `menu` key and select `undelete`. (This will put back the Desktop [SYNC] service book)

7. Enable `Mobile Network` on the device. (This can be found under Manage Connections on the home screen).

excellent, Thanks for the reply, will give this a go when i'm back in tomorrow, unfortunately I'm about to leave!

Makes sense though for sure! Really appreciate your feedback! :)
