UDP has been OK for me, no problems at all other than the rubbish firewall port documentation. My use is very simple (mostly HyperV and a few BM Windows 2012R2), so I've been lucky enough to avoid some of the horror stories I have read about.

If you are using Hyper V, have a look at Hyperoo - the basic version is free, advanced features you pay for but have a look to see if you actually need them. I use this for my home lab setup but we do use it for a couple of our clients. Be aware it doesn't support tape drives.
