Hi guys,

I've just bought a Dell 2005FPW. In the box was a letter which said that it had been owned by somebody before and was returned. Now the monitor dosen't have any dead/lazy pixels. But I do notice area's with backlight bleed. So my questions are, can this be reduced so its negligible, can I return it because of this fault and would this be a probable reason it was returned in the first place?
And no I didn't know it would be a return I paid full price in the first place.

Thanks

It should be returned if you have paid for a new monitor then that is what you should get, a new monitor not a pre-owned one. Everything is in your favour, do not accept any excuses.

Do you have any expeirence in this matter? or does anyone else? I don't want to sound rude or confrontational, but I don't want to mess this up.

No, your not being rude or confrontational at all. I have no personal experience in anything like this except reading in several papers, magazines and on-line forums over the past couple of years about a couple of well known high street stores being prosecuted for selling on pre-owned or used PC equipment as new.

There is nothing wrong with a store offering you an item at a small discount because someone has returned it after trying it out and finding it not to their liking, I would have no problem in accepting something like this, but you have paid for new and it appears you have received a pre-owned Item. It is not what you paid for and you have every right to return for a full refund or replacement with a new item, or a discount if you decide to keep it.

I did have some say two years back when helping out in another forum where a customer had accepted a full PC under the same circumstances as yourself, he did get a very good discount though when he complained to the store. Problem started a couple of months later when it developed a major fault and on trying to get a replacement he was informed by the manufacturer that he was the second owner and the warranty was not transferable.

He did get satisfaction n the end though by taking out a small claims court action that was settled with a full refund all expenses paid and a nice bit of compensation.

Yup, fact is if oyu went into a shop, you'd not pick up an opened box and accept it as brand new - just because oyu're not "in store" as its online, doesnt mean this doesnt stand. Send it back for a *new* one.

thats a disgrace.. you are covered by the distance selling act if you got it online.. that only counts for 7 days tho.. not that you should have to use it but it may give you some ammo if they dont play ball.

i purchased a *new* joystick from another online retailer, it was obvious it had been used, sent it back right away for refund, i think twice about shopping with them nowdays.

good luck
