Backlight flicker on start.

Signs of impending failure of the inverter or something? Anything I can do to prolong it's life?

Samsung Syncmaster 225BW is the screen in question and it started doing it yesterday, is fine once going though...
 
Most likely failed/failing caps on the power circuit. If you search this forum you'll find a thread with the same issues on the 226BW, I believe they have the same power board.

Someone made a nice list of the capacitors that need to be replaced, though I'd try a warranty return first unless you really can't go without the monitor. These screens came with a 3-year warranty from date or purchase.
 
Cool, will take a look thanks, may also give the warranty a try, though it's about a week outside of the three year mark as of today!
 
All the TFT's I've ever owned have done this to a certain extent.

It usually is because the CFD tubes (backlights) are cold and take a few minutes to warm up.

First time in over three years I've ever seen it on this screen, so it's definetly not normal.
