Hi guys,

I realllly hope you guys can help me I have a very weird annoying problem.
Basically every day of the work week, a scheduled backup runs. This backs up folders in some of the servers, as well as exchange information stores and mailboxes.

Its the information stores thats causing the problems.

Ill give you a brief explanation of whats happening.
Basically we have a shipping department here, and they have a mailbox called 'example'. Inside this mailbox there are folders for each ship that comes into port ie. Brixham, Maria etc. Theres around 100 of these ranging from A-Z.

Now the problem is, everyday I check these backups and it always shows up as failed. It backs up EVERYTHING except for some of these folders in this 'example' mailbox I mentioned. The strange thing is, it isn;t the entire mailbox that fails. Its just some of those Ship folders, usually from around M-Z. I know it sounds strange :S

I've checked the backup accounts used to run the backups it has all the permissions necessary. Here is the error message that I actually get

V-79-57344-65033 - Directory not found. Cannot backup directory. Vessels filing [vessels filing]. Top of information store. Inbox vessels filing. Lazy Z - 03.05.06 and its subdirectories.

There is around 50 of these repeated errors each corresponding to a different ship folder as previously mentioned. The thing is however, it says directory not found but ALL of these folders exist and are in regular use.

I've run out of ideas, Ive tried the knowledge section in symantec veritas, tried checking for previousl deleted accounts, tried created new backup job from scratch. Still does the same thing.

Any advice is appreciated :)

2 things - Are these folders getting changed as the backup is getting run?

Do you have the Backup Exec agent instaled on that server?
The agent helps pack stuff to send it to the backup server. Increases speed and reliability of backups.
(At least in the 2 year old version of Veritas)

Hiya, thanks for fast reply.

To answer ** questions, yes these files are constantly. THe information store causing the problems is the Vessels filiong in the Shipping department, they work 24/7 with shift work.

The backup exec remote agent is installed on the server also.

THe strange thing is though it isnt random folders which would be normal if the folders were in use. Its specificaly from around L-Z :S

LOL - That's an interesting one!
There doesn't happen to be another batch process on that server that runs around the same time as the backup is there?
(Say a once a day index or something?)

Asides from that I don't know what the next steps would be. :s
You have re-created the job etc, etc...

mmm yea im kinda lost :S

I had one idea tho...i was thinking it might have to do with Symantec Corporate Auto Protect.

Ive set this up on the server side with all the necessary exclusions for Microsoft Exchange, but i was wondering. There are several users in the shipping department that have access to this mailbox Vessel's filing. These users all have have symantec client (connected to parent server) installed, shouldnt the internet email protection be disabled :S

just a thought
