Backup Hard-drive Question.

Hi there,

I'm considering buying a backup hard-drive from OCUK-- I have some spare cash and don't think you can ever be safe enough :p I currently use an external hard-drive, but in the event that it fails I would also like an internal drive for complete catch-all.

At the moment I am using a Western Digital SATA-II drive, and am ideally interested in purchasing and fitting another drive with a capacity anywhere between 500Gb-1Tb purely for mass-storage of all my app-backups, media and documents.

I have no 'brand loyalty' when it comes to hard-drives -- so any good recommendation is open. I do have a small question: the 'OEM' purchases on OcUK's website; do they come with all of the necessary connector cables and accessories? Or is it just purely the drive itself, with everything else needing to be bought separately? If so, what exactly will I need to make sure to add to my basket?

I'm considering something along the lines of this.

However if there are any 'star purchases' or 'must haves' for this backup purpose- feel free!

Thanks a lot :)

Of course, why did I not notice that :|

Will I need to purchase any of the SATA power-cables if I go for the OCUK OEM product? What about extras like the hard-drive data cables? Are they much-have necessities? I've never bought an internal hard-drive for backup purposes before... normally always go with external, - so many questions!

Thanks for the quick reply.

You'll need to check what free connectors you have from your existing PSU to confirm whether you need any splitters, converters etc.

The drive will come bare so you'll need a data cable, normally you get a few with motherboards so check if you have any to hand, otherwise OCUK have them in the cables section.
