I have a 500GB external Hard drive, which I would like to use to backup a few select folders on my internal 1TB storage drive.

Is there any software that with a click of a button, will automatically updated any changes in the folders on the 1TB, to the 500GB backup? As opposed to having to manually copy and paste any new stuff each time..

Thanks

robocopy /e "C:\source folder" "D:\Destination folder"

synctoy leaves files around the place (or used to), and now requires some SQL thing to work

robocopy is already on Vista :)

i use it to mirror my music folder

takes about 20 seconds to scan through 50gb over a 1gb network :)

robocopy or SyncBack. Use SyncBack to copy from my main hd to secondary hd for backup. Works at bootup and does its thing quickly :)

With syncback, all I do is create a profile, name it add a source and destination folder and then run the folder? I see theres quite a lot of options but all I wanna do is er... backup so looking at the default options look ok to me.
I created half a dozen profiles and ran them at the same time, was I meant to do them one by one or I see there an option to create a group profile so would add the 6 profiles to the group profile and then running that be better?
One thing I did notice was that not all the files were copied in certain folders, syncback did say the files wern't copied as they were in use, they wern't. Any help on that?

I used SyncBack for ages on my XP machine and loved it. Then moved to SyncToy and it works just as well. Im now just using Windows Home Server, but belive there are backup programs within Vista. To be honest, SyncToy always 'just worked' so id suggest that, its a little easier to setup than SyncBack
