Hi all,

I need (want) a backup solution of about 1T that can suffer from 2 drives going at the same time and still carry on and then just replace the drives later, any idea on how I should set it up, fire your answers in here am busy at work at the moment but I will have a look from time to time, cheers! :)

I think RAID5 and a controller card with the 4 x 500Gb Hard drives will do it just fine.

This is an absolute minimum though and if one drive fails, your gonna want to get a new one fast, but its not gonna be the end of the wordl if you put it off for a few weeks

hmmm thought as much. Any way I can introduce another drive just incase I get the 2 drives in an array fail, I really dont want to take chances here I need a lot of redundancy

There's RAID 6 also which is like RAID 5 but allows for 2 drives to fail simultaneously rather than just 1.

Minimum RAID 6 setup for 1TB of usable space would require 4 x 500GB hdd's I believe. To increase capacity, just add another drive to the array. Unlike RAID 1, you won't have to add another 2 drives.
