Backup Windows Update

Hi all does anyone know where the windows update files are stored after they have been downloaded in windows vista ultimate? I am wanting to do a backup of them incase of reinstall.

As far as Im aware they have to be installed using the windows update service when you use the website, I dont think they can just be installed like and .exe, however I may be wrong about this.

What would be the problem with just re downloading them?
