i have a windows xp home cd that i have installed a few times on my computer and when i have a full install with all my basic stuff on it is there any way to back up the whole thing, the xp installation and everything else so i can just load it back again without formatting/phoning up to activate/install all programs/drivers again. i need a whole system backup.

is there any way to do this so i can just copy the installation back onto the hard drive if i need to.

i have a spare 40gb hard drive that i could save the installation to, it would be handy if i could do this.

also i would need help in how to transfer it back once i have the backup.

EDIT: i now know what i need to do is make an image of my c: drive and to be able to load it back, any advice/instructions/links to do this?

You first need to buy the program, and install it, then follow the instruction supplied with it, it really is a simple process, try going to the Symantec website and do some research on it.

yup, ghost is really simple

best way to do it, would be to install xp again (slipstream sp2 into the cd first (ues nlite for this)) install drivers and all updates

then get ghost on your pc and make a backup (it uses fairly good compression so makes the backup discs small)

def good for a home user :)
