Backup your 360 games

If i bought an ecternal harddrive would i be able to get data off that onto my xbox via the usb ports so i dont need media center on my pc?

Technically yeah as long as videos are in wmv format, you don't need media edition on your pc though only connect software or mp11.

I just burn everything to dvd as don't have sp2 and every time i download it wrecks windows and won't boot up.

Just read the post above sorry.

Sorry I was refering to the internal PC harddrives, USB ones are fine (I think!) but you are limited to what you can actually play off them.

Maybe I don't really know since I've never done it, you could always try it if you have a spare HDD around and also the external cases aren't really expensive are they?

As long as your pc would pick it up as a usb device then it shouldn't be a problem for the 360 to pick it up. Don't see any reason why not. External usb hard drives aint too expensive anymore. On ocuk 250gig for 65 notes. ;)

hmm not too fussed about playing games off the harddrive but what i really would like to do is to be able to stream xvids and divxs off my pc hard drive (which is running winxp). i know that u can stream wmv's but am i right in saying that u need to have windows media centre installed as your main o/s.

u can stream wmv's if you have windows vista installed right (does anyone know which version of vista i would have to get to allow this?)...

if the xbox could stream xvids and divx's then man that would make it awesome as a complete home entertainment unit in my eyes.

You can do the above. Just use Google. What we really need is buit in Divx support.

i dont think they'll ever totally do away with the disc but maybe as drives get bigger they will store game maps etc on the hard drive?
isnt there supposed to be a 100Gb version of the 360 drive just around the corner?
also i think the security coding is quite complex stopping us from using just a bog std usb hard drive :(

Lol you can use a standard usb drive, thats why usb pens and mp3 players work fine! 100gb hard drive, how much is that going to cost, with the 20gb being 60notes.

The 360 will only play MP3's from the HD that have been ripped from a CD. It will however play MP3's from any external device such as a USB HD or key.

The 360 HD cannot be altered / upgraded in any way, it can be read by a PC but that's about it. 360 games can be backed up but that's a whole other thread (and one that couldn't be discussed on here).

A bit off topic, but is it possible to "replace" the Xbox's hard drive with a larger one?
