How far away are we from being able to 3D print organs instead of growing them in pigs?

Already doing it......we print skin for skin grafts, and we can use 3d printers to print the scaffolding of organs that are then seeded with stem cells (the cells then replicate and cover the scaffolding). 3d printing is also being used to create patient-specific joint replacement prosthetics.

Something of interest regarding using pigs in xenotransplantation....if you have a pig that is the same body mass as you, the pig's organs will be the same size as your organs.

Didnt they do this with a pigs heart and it started beating all of its own accord, when i saw the documentary on it the head scientist mentioned it was up to 25% the strength of an adult human heart, and im sure people are walking around (albeit slowly) with less.

Its a wonderful field of research and i support it fully.
