Ive had one now since christmas and its running well seems pretty cool with 27-30c idle temps so i started to OC it a little bare in mind i havent OC'd since core 2 duo :p

Anyways i have set PLL manual to 1.8 ram voltage to 1.5 set timings to intel SPD and left vcore on auto and set 42 as multi.Although for some reason on my Z77 V pro board i cannot disable turbo as once i get my multi anything over stock turbo it greyed out and cpu reports 3500MHZ in bios and the proper OC frequency in CPU-Z?

So yea i failed intel burn @ very high with only 2 passes at 1.168V manual @ 4200MHZ.Ive set it to auto offset and its bumped me up to 1.19 -1.2V and its passed with temps hitting 70C on one of the cores.

Dont people hit 4.4-4.5 with 1.168V?:(

tbh always take oc posted by people with a pinch of salt unless you know they are reliable

with good cooling you should on average hit 4.4-4.5 stable

very good cooling 4.6 -4.8 if very good chip

some will post silly low voltage and say stable blah blah.

so aim for 4.4 - 4.5 with very good cooling is more realistic probably be about 70c-80c

already seen quite a few lately saying yeah im running at this volt and now cant or getting blue screens :p

i run 24/7 @ 4.2 @ 1.225v rock solid 3 weeks no reboot :D not 1 hr rough prime or 5 loop ibt

my chip i have had stable at 4.7 but.. it was hooooooot :D

im not pushing too much yet as ive seen some people on sandbridge saying how they have degraded quite quickly and im just keeping a eye on how ivys are. no rush anyway :)

They can do a lot more just needs more volts and better cooling.

I run 1.35v 4.7mhz as my 24/7 overclock.

Tottaly stable and temps never go above 70 in prime and never above 55 in game.

Get your self a decent case and a phanteks like me or something ssimilar and bump up the volts.

When you say Z77 V Pro motherboard, do you mean the Asus P8Z77-V Pro? I have the non pro version and you can disable the turbo mode and set the multiplier quite easily, although it's not the most obvious setup.

Without the BIOS in front of me I can't really describe it, but after you've disabled turbo mode you need to go to one of the other pages for CPU settings and it gives you the option to set the multiplier there. Set it manually, and when you go back to the main AI Tweaker screen it should show the new frequency there.

The turbo options will be greyed out.

Yea its the Pro version with latest 1706 bios. Its funny as if i touch any multi over default as i said it will grey out and enable turbo.Windows says 3400MHZ bios says the same but cpu z on idle says the proper 4500MHZ speed.

Ill try again and see if turbo wont grey out as it seems to be working as its not in turbo mode its just windows and bios wont report the overclock.

Windows and BIOS won't show any higher, because as far as they are concerned it isn't overclocked. I've disabled turbo mode on mine and set it to 4.5ghz in the BIOS and it still only shows as 3.5 in windows :p.

Doesn't matter though, if CPU-Z shows 4500mhz then that's what it is.

Just as a question, do you have speed stepping enabled? Your computer will use more power running at max all the time I would think...

With speed stepping there's not much point in having turbo as it underclocks itself anyway, normally hovers between 1600mhz and 3200mhz for me when browsing, then 4500mhz when gaming.

Nah i dont use speedstep or any power saving mate and ive disabled pretty much everything in bios i do not use or need.I bought a HP 311C netbook for £210 like 2 years ago for internet and divx so it never sits idle.If the PC is on im in a game or something intensive.

And the electric cost is quite low on IB.I clocked it at 4hp per hr running IBT.

Also managed to get 4700MHZ with LLC 75% 1.370V in bios.IBT stable for 10 loops.

Those temps are a bit on the high side. Your chip looks capable enough, just need better cooling.

Yea That is a Corsair H80 @ max exhausting out the back of a HAF 912 plus with apache fans.I need to re arrange the fans and get new one's and the 580 was hitting 90c in BF3 also.

Demcfilter is really demanding on case fans sadly and i suspect thats where my problem lies.I think i may need my top 120mm exhausting as i only have one outtake which is the H80 and 4 apaches intaking for positive pressure.

I still get dust and i suspect its pushing pooling hot air around the cpu area.I wont ever get those temps in say GTA IV though and not even in prime so im not worried at all.

My old C2D used to idle at 55c and like terminator is still going strong :P

Update i dropped vcore and pll and used blck and lower multi and have lowered temps a bit and got the same OC.
