Bad BIOS Flash now it wont boot!!! help

I suggest you stop experimenting while you still have a 'live' motherboard.

You should always do the following after a bios flash....

There's no point in doing anything alse until you have.
 
You need to find out for sure if you have flashed the wrong bios. If you have than thats the problem. If not then it something alse wrong here.

I recieved my nf7-s v2 off auction site pre flashed with the nf7-s2 bios. It worked and booted but was a right mess. There are ways to get around the bios flash protection using commands in dos

Get everest and see what board/bios its says you have.
Then try solution below if it is the wrong bios flashed with

This is what I've found.

Gone to Shuttle's website, went to Support > Downloads > Drivers, BIOS, tools & manuals.

Punched your model # in (SN41G2) and found three versions:Since you didn't say which version, can only assume you mean V1 - so will be using that for the rest of this post.

Downloaded fn41s032.bin. Then downloaded Awdflash.zip.

Download Windows 98 SE OEM bootup disk from http://www.bootdisk.com/bootdisk.htm

Download and install Virtual Floppy Drive (VFD) 2.1 from http://chitchat.at.infoseek.co.jp/vmware/vfd.html - install and initiate the driver.

Extract the image from the 98 bootup disk (with Winace, I just right click the downloaded file and select Extract), and mount the image.

Run Nero. Burn a bootable CD, using the image from the virtual floppy drive.

Bootup from CD, and punch the following into the command line:
AWDFLASH.EXE fn41s032.bin /PY /SN /CC /R /CP /CD /QI

That should do it!

For the record, here is what all the switches do with Awdflash (awflash /?)

When i first flashed the bios it was with V2 as i was sure thats what i have.. but since im having these problems and the bios dosnt look the same as the manual im thinking that this is the wrong one...

But trying to re-flash with V1 is says that "wrong part number" and dosnt do anything...

The shuttle site has changed it used to let you input your serial number and it would tell you exactly what type you have.. but now you just have to gues...

Any writing on your motherboard? Sometimes it'll say "rev 2.0" etc.

Other than that, I can only suggest phoning Shuttle.
 
Ok just been looking at the shuttle site and found that my mobo is a V2....

What can i do now? re-flash with V2 again and see what happens?

yup use what basmic said to do AWDFLASH.EXE fn41s***.bin /PY /SN /CC /R /CP /CD /QI

i got one of these shuttles and theyre a right **** in the ****

they get hot,you have to cut the honeycomb backing off and put a better/quieter fan on at least
 
I still cant get anything to work.. any changes to the cpu multiplyer or fsb has no change on the clock speed!

Is it goosed?

Any ideas anything at all to try would be great... Cheers...

On a lighter note my new dell it due on the 28th but need to pay for it by selling this one.. so i need to sort it... :(

Phone Shuttle up and give them your serial, and ask them which version it is.

Then tell them about the new BIOS screwing things up.

You have to update the bios sometimes so you can have better hardware in your pc, like a faster cpu, better graphics card or larger hard drive.

Ive updated my bios loads of time over the years and never had a prob. Thie thing you need to be sure about is first the right make and model for you board, and rev number for your board...Like there might be 2 different gigabyte 7zx boards but the rev on 1 board might say rev 1.00 and another rev 1.50.. So you have to be so careful you get the right one.

It isnt a good idea doing it when you tired mate ;)
 
Thanks for the offer robmac.. but im 100% sure i have used the right bios for my system because it says rev 2 on the mobo after a closer look.. and even after a re-flash the bios is still being dumb...

but the problem is the new bios is not picking up my cpu speed... and not even letting me change any setings to speed it up...

i have sent a email to shuttle but they have no phone number on there web site so i cant ring..

Unplug the power from the PSU - let it stand for about 30 seconds. With the power still unplugged, press the power on button.

Now reset the BIOS - usually a series of 3 pins, and pins 1-2 are for normal operation of the computer, and 2-3 resets the BIOS data (could be other way round, on some motherboards). Either way, move the jumper to reset the BIOS, and leave the jumper there for about 10 seconds. Move the jumper back to it's original position.

Plug the machine back in, power it up as normal and check (but don't change) the settings.

If BIOS is still not normal, reflash the BIOS using the command I gave in my earlier post. After flashing, reset the BIOS again (unplug power, change jumpers, plug in power).

If that doesn't help, then I am at a loss. I would only say try another BIOS version.
 
I just like to say that i appreciate all the help here...

Ok have some new info.. i went back to a old bios and it pick my cpu up as a XP withc is better than before but i still dont have the right speed.. Its runnging at 1.1ghz 100fsb and its a xp2500

i still have no contol over the speed in bios it just has no affect..

Any ideas?

EDIT: now re-flashed back to new bios and still the same ARRRG :mad:
 
I am using fn41si0q.bin from the shuttle web site and also tryed fn41si0n.bin (old version)

The mobo says its a FN41 REV2 (written on the mobo) but looking at the handbook it says its a FN41. the pics of the bios in the handbook look the same as the bios i had before the flash...

Im realy confused.. because i now have all these overclocking options (that dont work) in my bios when i neave used to....

I dont realy want to order a new bios chip because for all i know they might just send me a chip with the same bios on as i have now :confused:
