Hi all,

Fitted my new asus p8z68 deluxe bundle on Saturday and it was working fine until it froze, I restarted only for it to restart itself again 7 seconds into booting back up.
I tried to update battlefield bad company 2 and it froze again, all in all it froze up 3 times, it was late on in the night so I decided to have a look at it Sunday morning.
Yesterday all I did was open it up an I noticed I was using my old red sata cable off my old hdd which was 4 years old, I hadn't used the new cable that came with the motherboard as I didn't think it would make difference. I decided to switch out the old one for the new cable out of the motherboard box which has printed on it sata 6gb/s (my new hdd is the wd caviar black which is 6gb/s) Since then fingers crossed I have had no more problems as it was on all day yesterday. Do you think the cable could have caused the problem? Thank you in adv for any response.

James

Old cable = problems.

New cable = no problems.

Unless you get any further problems it looks like it was the cable.

Perhaps the old cable or the connector became damaged during the change over process.

I recently had problems with my rig - it BSOD'ed then completely killed my RAID-0 array.

It claimed one of my disks had failed, but I swapped disks around in my drive bay, and the fault then move to the next disk..

I then opened up the case and saw that the cable was twisted 45' right by the connector... changed the cable out and it's been fine ever since.. Those cables are a good 3 years old too .. :D

Bloody hell simple things eh? Cheers for the responses lads, appreciate it. Now my mind is at ease, it's a lot of money to spend to be having things go wrong lol.
