I have been having problems with blue screeding forever including problems like 'KERNAL_DATA_INPAGE_ERROR', 'atikmpag.sys' and 'DRIVER_POWER_STATE_FAILURE'. I ran an 'error-checking' tool on my hard drive and found '108 bad clusters'. What do I do?

Open a Command Prompt as Administrator and run chkdsk /r. Reboot. Take a nap.

You will probably need a new HD in the near future. Backup your stuff.

The drive is likely to be on its way out, so although you can use chkdsk to get it to mark the sectors as bad (so it won't try to write data to them), they often will get worse and completely fail soon.

So yeah, new HD.

Thread revival but it answered my question.

My WD Passport USB drive got 5 bad clusters today from somewhere so I was worried about using it further. Just running a CHKDSK /R to see if I can get the corrupt files working. It's within the 12 months warranty so I am getting it replaced by the retailer. Wasn't sure whether they would just for something like this - I assumed the HDD had to be completely broken (i.e. not powering up) but they are sending me a new one.
