Hi all,
With the amount of travelling I do and the amount of poor driving I've seen, my mindset always moves to "How do we solve it?".
I personally feel like the UK is perceived to have good driving standards but in reality, we have a lot of problems.
In the last year, I don't think I've had a reasonable length journey without seeing or experiencing poor standards.
Simply put, you expect to have bad drivers if you go to say, India. You don't expect it here yet it does occur.
So, whats the solution?

Personally, I think its two fold.
First is re-education. A lot of drivers have simply forgot how to drive correctly. Even just a re-test of theory would help as it seems a lot of drivers don't know the rules of the road, let alone how to drive on them. Considering how we are now in the age where all our details are online and computer based, I don't see how it would be difficult to run tests every so often linked to your licence. Yes, it may be difficult to control cheating but in the majority of cases, a driver should be better educated as a result.
Secondly, a system that allows that reporting of driving offences that can be centrally audited and controlled which then allows punishment as a result. I did think that a SmartPhone App that allows you to upload a picture or video of a driving offence could be useful however it then leads on to the obvious point - The person recording is probably driving and therefore committing a offence.
Both suggestions of mine have flaws which would need working out but I would be interested in your high level solutions.
Lastly, I should say that if everyone followed the rules, I feel a lot of drivers wouldn't mind sticking to the limits/rules. Example would be when you're doing 30 with cruise control on but have a queue of cars tail gating you as they all want to break the limit. It's like peer pressure when driving.
TL;DR - Poor driving in the UK, how do you solve it?
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Edit: I appreciate nothing we say in here will make the blind bit of difference - Unless someone creates a petition

- Middle lane/outside lane hogging
- Drivers cutting up others
- Inconsistent speed
- Tailgating (and then brake checking)
- Poor parking (Yellow lines etc)
- Aggressive driving
- Total lack of awareness by many drivers
