Bad driving instructors

i had lessons at 16 (now 27) in a fiesta diesel had about 15 lessons and my instructor booked me in for my test (my dad taught me how to drive at about the age of 12) 5 days before the test i received a phone call from him sounding quite upset he had been diagnosed has having vertigo and had is licence taken of him. He put me in touch with a colleague of his who turned up in a 1.1litre pug 106, I thought no chance i can pass in this after spending 15 lessons driving a diesel. But low and behold 35 minutes and 1 minor later i had passed. Think old skool teachers seem to be the best these days after hearing things from friends about these younger teachers.

Now keeping these stupid young kids of scooters that's another thread entirely.

So do lots of other people who fail driving tests.

I never failed a driving test and can easily say it's not just your driving that matters during the test, not all people are honest people. A bit of *** kissing also helps.

My instructor wasn't too bad I think, though he did worry too much about things ( like ranting that I used/pulled the indicator stalk too hard and to do it more carefully with 1 finger to not break it, break it my *** I now use the indicator as I please and it didn't break like he said it would and he moaned I switched gears ''too quickly'' (not as in too early but simply took too little time to change gear ) and that I should do it calmer ). Passed the first time so no real complaints though.

He was really professional and always 100% alert (apart from traffic lights when he slyly used to check out women :p). He also never hesitated in pulling the window down and making hand gestures at idiot drivers and pedestrians and calling them ****s. He used the C word a lot which I found very awesome.

how is this professional?

completely wrong.

I think I had quite a decent instructor when I was doing my car license, I even had a better exterminator as I passed on my first go.

However I can't say the same about instructors while doing my motorbike license.
I paid for 2 full days of training and all I did was riding my bike with 3 other guys and 1 instructor, he couldn't care less and we did not practice what I was going to have on mod2 and he hardly explained anything or gave any tips. I felt robbed of my hard earned money I paid for this training.

My instructor was pretty good, first with his Mini Cooper and then his 207 GT. Knew him from family and he's teaching my brother and sister now too. Still only passed third time, but that was down to me. Though I did spend quite a bit of the third test talking to the instructor about cars as he was about to swap his S2000 for a Audi TT.

How long do you honestly think these man hating examiners would have a job, with the skewed stats hating men or people in green jumpers or any other pet hates would produce?

Harold Shipman managed to murder over 100 people before he got caught (why does it make me happy the biggest serial killer in history is British and not a yank? lol) if nobody's looking at somebody performance then its irrelevant how bad it is

My driving instructor was excellent, such a nice guy and fairly cheap as well :)

Same here. My instructor's only quirk was that he was diabetic, which meant occasionally I would have to pull over so he could get out and take a pee behind a shrub.

I've only ever had 2 instructors. First one taught me nothing, who I only took 14 lessons with. And the second one was ok, I took about 14 lessons with him aswell. This was a period of 3 years, my dad taught me a lot.

I think these days they try make as much money out of you as possible.

I did one of those week courses and the guy that ran it was great, definatly worth it those courses for people that are already decent drivers.

My one and only instructor was an absolute top notch bloke and great teacher! Very patient, explained things very clearly. I never felt like he was keeping me back because he wanted more money. Really nicely kept car, always on time and cracking banter in the car.

I failed my first test with him, but that was my fault, I didn't pull out quick enough at a round about, causing someone coming around the roundabout to have to brake, and that was my fault, I accept that (although at the time I blamed everyone but myself!). I had the same examiner for my second test and passed second time.

It was a bit of a shame to leave my driving instructor behind once I passed. He was a cracking bloke, and got to know his students quite well. I would have no problems reccomending anyone to him.

Cheers Steve! :D

a driving examiner doesn't know you so how can they like/dislike you?
they only see the candidate for 40 mins.

They know your instructor though...

My instructor said there was 1 examiner that always made his students fail because he had an argument with him in the past.

I had heard of a few examples of bad instructors from my (excellent) instructor.

1. One guy used to let the students drive for an hour exactly and if they hadn't made it to where they were being dropped off he would make them swap so he drove (claimed it got them back quicker)

2. 2 brothers in their 60's who had been teaching for 20+ years and got to the stage where they just didn't care. Would tell students to go for tests when they obviously were not competent and knew they were nearly certain to fail.

Mine was a friend of my mums so it meant my lessons would sometimes be paid for with a bottle of wine, a dinner, and things like that. Money did change hands, of course, but they were done on the cheap.
She was great, I knew her quite well too so we could have a good bit of banter on the roads. Also, because they lived in the same village my hour lesson could sometimes turn into a 2 our lesson as I would drive us both back to the village.
There was also once when she needed to do things in Glasgow and would just phone me up and asked if I wanted to drive her about.
Had 16 lessons, nothing else with parents, and passed first time with 4 minors.

I'm sure my instructor was a drug dealer. He would make me pull in at random addresses on his route where he'd nip off exchange jiffy bags and envelopes with shady looking blokes. All very suspicious. Passed with 8 lessons though :D

Mine was great, trustworthy too, to the point where he insisted I didn't pay for any more lessons because he felt I wouldn't learn anything.

A lot of instructors would keep giving the lessons for the £££ if you asked, even if they felt it was a waste.
