Bad head on Sata HD

Hi

looking for a bit of help, found spare sata 2.5" hdd from laptop, plug this in to my desktop pc but only getting clunking sort of noise, which would point to bad head or something like that, also for some strange reason when I conect this hard drive windows will not boot from my original hard drive which is sata is well, Bios see the 2.5", is there anything I can try it before I been the hard disk???

Not strange, just means the other drive is gone so bad that Windows is trying to read/make sense of it and it can't, hence the looong boot. If theres no data to salvage or anything like that and the laptop is out of warranty ( if its the original hdd, it will be OEM, so only the laptop manufacturer will warrant it) bin it.
