Bad IPS glow unavoidable?

It uses either a PLS or AHVA (NOT VA - IPS-type) panel depending on revision. That will be where the confusion stems from. As I've said, there are no 1440p VA panels smaller than 32" currently. I'd recommend reading my review of the BL3200PT for an idea of what it is like for gaming.

I did read that splendid review - and it sounds rather promising!
I'm slightly concerned by the size! And the concomitant loss of pixel density compared to a 27" 1440. But I'm sure I'd get used to it!
The other slight concern is the responsiveness in games. Eg the 'slight smearing' you mention in the review. I don't think I'm especially sensitive to such effects so it might be fine. And I don't play any competitive, superfast games. I mainly play things like Skyrim, Witcher 3, Elite Dangerous, Deus Ex. So maybe it'll be fine for the kind of gaming I do.

Another thing about the BL3200PT: I read that some people suffered from flashing and banding and other less desirable effects, and it turns out that the monitors needed to be returned to receive a firmware update. Are there any of these dodgy firmware models still in circulation do you think, or should I not have to worry about that now?

Thanks

I'm not sure about the flashing and banding issues really, they could be panel specific as they have been reported on other models using the same panel (like the Samsung S32D850T). Some degree of banding is to be expected given the panel type, but not the weird out of place bands which I believe are the issue here. Having said that I didn't notice either issue on the BL3200PT I tested so maybe it varies between units and could have been ironed out now.
