Bad manners when posting

I don't think there's anything wrong with challenging a viewpoint which you believe is ridiculuous. How could there be?

True, it gets a little heated sometimes and I'm certainly one to get a little personal when I don't really mean to but it's all part of the discussion. It shows passion and belief (on both 'sides') - surely that can only be a good thing?

Take a trip to speakers corner, it's a lot more subdued in there!

If you don't like it, i'm afraid the world is full of people like that, so it's just something you'll have to get used to. Or you could log off!

Can't say i've noticed anything too terrible recently though.

I enjoy reading conspiracy theories, I don't believe in any of them but it makes for interesting reading. I feel that some really interesting discussions could come out of such theories if people just gave it a chance.

So it's pretty annoying to see any thread questioning the motives of the government, or reality itself, to be met with constant one-liners such as "tinfoil hat HUUURRRRRR" and "you're not Majick" etc. This forum has a pretty bad mob mentality, where many posters will jump straight on any thread bandwagon in order to feel a part of the popular opinion.

Cool, I have a "sycophantic band of followers".

I wonder who they are?

Me Me Me :D
In all seriousness the threads always start off quite polite but i get frustrated when the conspiracy theorists refuse to accept anything resembling evidence.
If someone posts outlandish claims then expect a reaction.
As alexhull24 says SC is more civilised.

I think sometimes it is hard to pick up the humour in some peoples writings & also there will always be clashes of personality, That said though it's well moderated & everybody is free to hit the RTM button.

I'm pretty sure there are some people on here who have their heads so far up their own backsides that they just won't accept that they can be wrong, or proved so (naming no names).

Then again, text can be interpreted in a number of different ways, so their special type of humour may not come across as it would if it was said in a conversation, with tone and facial expressions.

I think the only bad manners come from people with outlandish claims who then completely ignore requests to provide evidence. Not only do they ignore these requests, they then go on to insult those requesting the evidence and claim that they're being harassed.

The alternative to these serious and repeated requests for evidence is to simply ridicule certain posters as nutjobs rather than engaging the in debate.

I thought I'd make it bigger because that's exactly how I see it

This should be the OP. If I want to absolutely flame the living **** out of our resident nutjobs and idiots who insist that the product of their delusions and insanity are The One True Way, then I will.

Go to another forum if you don't like it.

I can imagine that those people who say certain things on here wouldn't dare face to face with the other person and know it, therefore to make themselves feel less insecure they do it here. :)

Forgive the ignorance on my part if I come over this way at all but from what I can gather, the subject matter at heart is probably the single most burning issue around at this time to many. With respect I am very interested in what the future beholds, I am a designer, it's my thing. But it's fair to say that the most unreasonable counter request doing the rounds since the internets was born was for an OP to provide evidence.

I humbly suggest evidence to be all around and that things are a changing. It is fair to say that if a given attention seeker does in fact seek no further truth than that of his peers and for them to provide evidence without actually getting off his or her own behind to at least find things out for themselves, then perhaps that individual is quite at ease in a bubble. I wouldn't respond to that my friend.

what

Extraordinary claims demand extraordinary proof - and as always, the burden of evidence lies with the claimant, not the audience.

I absolutely concur with this. I'm willing to admit that I have utter disdain for the likes of David Icke and their merry bands of zealots. I don't mind if people post links to these things asking what people think. I do mind if they then ignore reasoned argument and just spout 'I'm right and you're blind/delusional/stupid'-type comments. I'm sorry if people don't like it, but they'll get short shrift from me.

THE EARTH IS FLAT - FACT.
Don't debate it with me because I read it somewhere.
It is not up to me to provide evidence and if you provide evidence against it then I'll call you a crackpot for you believing what the media tells you.

Haha, that's very true.
