Hello,

The past couple of days my machine has been blue screening with the error Bad Pool Header. I have used Blue Screen Viewer to pull the up the details - it appears to be error code 0x00000019.

I have Googled this and cannot see any specific - There are a lot references to problems with various anti virus software, none of which I have installed.

I am running Windows 8.1 Pro, with the built in Windows Defender anti virus. I have attached screenshots of the .dmp files - does anyone have any suggestions or thoughts on what could be causing this?

Many thanks

Had this in the past, turned out to be 1 of 3 things on various computers.

Bad RAM
HDD is on its way out before the clicking starts
Bad Sata cables

Thanks,

I have also had intermittent issues with the machine just randomly powering off - I have checked event viewer and cannot see anything other than a network driver that I have upgraded. Would this indicate any of the components mentioned above requiring replacement?

Thanks

I am not sure if the turning off problem is down to overheating, I was using the machine yesterday when this happened again. When the machine had powered off it seem red hot to touch, especially near the vent. I have cleaned the machine the best I can without taking the laptop apart - I cannot see any dust or anything blocking the vents. The laptop is being used on a laptop raised so the vent is not blocked.

Thanks

Customer reviews on a competitor site have a few reporting overheating problems with this unit....

I would run with a overheating problem.. certainly with your own description of "red hot to touch" and your lappy is just protecting itself by shutting down.

I would recommend that you strip the lappy right down and re-seat the heatsinks if applicable and give it a good internal check over. If your not happy doing this yourself find a small local repair guy. Avoid the purple shirts... they charge way over the odds for everything.

Here's a link to just one of many vids on Youtube... which all deal with Acer Aspire 5742 overheating
