Bad Setup to have?

Hi there,

I have just bought a new router so i can get the internet on my home network again.

Thing is I hate the software on the router, but i have a netgear router which i like.

If I switch off all the settings of the router (ie firewall etc) and just have it as a modem and have that feeding into my router which has firewall and everything, would that be a secure enough setup?

Ie would people be able to hack my home network easier so to speak? Or will i notice a "slow down" in internet speeds or something like that?

Well I just dont have a clue how to use it because it is layed out and worded so poorly.

seems like a waste of electricity to me, how often do you actually use the web interface after you set it up initially?
