Hey guys,

I’m trying to sort out a mate’s laptop atm.

At first we though it was a simple windows corruption, he was getting a message on startup:

windows/system32/config/system – Missing or Corrupt

We’ve since tested the memory and decided its not that, and at this point we’re both out of ideas :p

When we try to do a fresh installation we get a far as the T&C’s, hit F8 and are confronted with a BSOD and a Bad_Pool_Caller message.

Help :(

Cheers,

SW.

Looked it up, and this is all I got..

0x000000C2: BAD_POOL_CALLER

Again a kernel mode process or driver performed an illegal memory operation. Check for any recently installed drivers, which could be causing the problem.

Use Memtest 86 and boot from cd to test your memory out.

Thanks mate; I tested the memory with memtest86 for just under 24hrs - that returned no errors?

We're concentrating on a fresh installation atm. The BAD_POOL_CALLER BSOD is as far as we can get

If it’s a problem with the laptop's motherboard, then I suppose it's going to have to go back to its maker - it's got about 6months left on its extended warranty :)
