looking for a bag rucksack kind if possible for my dslr and lappy, using it for every day use as well as trips abroad, needs to fit dslr (doh) 2 lens, 15inch lappy and all the normal stuff like memory cards and filters and cleaning kit would like to have some space left for the normal add ons in the future not to bothered about a tripod on it, any ideas also pics would help if you have the bag yourself, budget is about £100 but could stretch over if its the ideal bag

I've just bought a Tamrac Adventure 9 (upgraded from the Adventure 7) and it's very good

Camera & Lens wise I can get the following into the main camera compartment

Canon 400D + Battery Grip
Canon 17-85mm
Canon 50mm
Sigma 70-300
Canon Speedlite 580ex
Canon 18-55mm

Plus room for the sigma 10-20mm when it arrives next week

There's also space for a 15" lappy (I can fit a dell 4250 inside it)

It's also got a decent space for other personal items plus pockets for batteries, cables, cards etc

Oh, the bit that seperates the 'personal' compartment from the camera compartment can come out making it a full rucksack :)

cost me £80

the best thing to do is take your existing kit (or use demo kit) and laptop down to a local store - try out the bags and you will find one you will like (hopefully). Note the model of the bag and hunt for a cheaper on on the tinternet.

or you could buy it there and then if the price is right!

Remember that battery chargers wetc can be put in th main luggage!

also look out for ones with a tripod mount as this comes in handy too!

really do like the look of that one i had been looking at the expedition bags :D

edit just found one for £60 :)

damn you, £20 cheaper ;)

Also agree with 33L, that's what I did yesterday, took the old bag down (which I'm selling btw :) ) with all the gear and fitted it into the other bags.

Some bags look and feel fine when there's nothing in them but it's a different story when you're carrying 10-20kg of kit in them. Those slingshot bags are a good example, I found them nice and easy to use with nothing in them, but with a lot of kit tucked away in there it wasn't as easy to swing it round to your front and it didn't feel too good on the shoulder! So yes, take your gear down and test a few bags out.

am limited to the highstreet shops mainly the one thats starts with j :( and they dont have much in there

Im looking at the crumpler daily or zoomiverse.

Anyone have any experiences with these bags?

I have same requirements as the OP- laptop, SLR and a few lenses.

that highstreet store carries the lowepro range and just look for indipendant retailers as well

Youstolemyname.

I've had a Zoomiverse and in my personal opinion it's too big to be practical especially if you only need it for a lappy, DSLR and a few lenses.

To both your fine self and the OP I would recommend the Crumpler PrettyBoy Laptop Backpack.

I currently have in mine:

Laptop compartment

17" Macbook Pro

Camera compartment

Nikon D50 with 18-200VR attached
2 x Nikon SB-800
Nikon 50mm f/1.8
Nikon 12-24mm Superwide Angle
ML-3 IR remote
Memory Cards
Spare Battery
Torch
Sync cord

Main compartment

Nikon D70 with 18-70mm attached
Vivitar 283 Flashgun
Rocket blower
Battery Charger
USB Cable
Pencil Case
2 x Notebooks
iPod + Headphones
Sunglasses
2 x orange
1 x apple

Now that is pretty much the limit of the bag but it really is spacious and I prefer the format of the Prettyboy backpack to that of the Zoomiverse and the others like it (Pyjama Party etc).

Any more questions just ask. :)

Great site steveo, thanks for sharing

Im put off the prettyboy backpack as it has no means of attaching a tripod (that I can see)

The one that is winning at the moment is the Daily XL by crumpler...

@ Youstolemyname

I just brought a crumpler daily xl bag and i am very impressed with the quality and size of it. it fits in

Nikon D80
Nikon 17-55mm AF-S f/2.8G IF-ED Dx
Nikon AF-S VR 105mm f2.8G IF-ED
Nikon 12-24 mm AF-S f/4G ED-IF Dx
Nikon AF-S VR 70-300mm f/4.5-5.6G IF-ED Lens
Nikon SB-600 Speedlight

plus various spare SD cards and batteries and has loads of space in the front pockets for anything i need.

also has a very comfy strap to even out the weight :D

i just lay it in the between the bag and the flap, there is plenty of room for a hand towel as well just in case of sticky fingers

Plum I was talking about the backpack rather than shoulder bag. I found that with the weight of the laptop and the camera equipment I had to have a second strap. I know bags like yours distribute the weight well for a satchel style bag but it was doing my back in.

ysmn: There is a loop on the side that you could stick a leg or two in but it's not very practical for anything more than a small light weight tripod. I think that's the only drawback to the prettyboy laptop backpack.

Having said that I didn't find the tripod strap on the Zoomiverse to be particularly practical either so if that's the only thing stopping you from considering the PBLB I wouldn't worry about it and carry the tripod normally.
