Poll: Bagpipes - anyone actually like the sound of them?

I'm currently at work and in the room next door some people are practising with Bagpipes for a show tonight, now I just don't get Bagpipes and I think they sound god awful and I have never met anyone that does like them (not that it comes up much in convo)

So - Do you like the sound of Bagpipes? Obviously I mean when played properly.

I like the sound of them, but I sure as hell wouldn't want some next door practising on one. I think they can grate after a while.

I've even met pipers who don't like the sound of bagpipes.

Love the sound. Same with the Lambeg drum. You know the summers arrived when you wake up to the sound of pipes or Lambegs rolling across the fields. Good times.

I like them. Got lots of friends in pipe bands and they make some amazing noises and earn a fortune. My upstairs neighbor plays them but he goes to the park to practice.

They sound like nails on a chalkboard, they are awful, but you gotta have something to let the Scottish think they're being creative, keeps them quiet, well except for the god awful noise, luckily we don't have to put up with it.

Best place to listen to bagpipes from, is about a mile away, from there, they can be quite haunting, and you don't get quite so much 'drone'..

Luton has a pretty good Lambeg drum scene. You ever see them out and about?

Ah yes, I can picture the residents of the Garvaghy Road with flowers in their hair, skipping along merrily to the pipes and drums.
