Baking with m0rte: Croissants/Pain au chocolat [Images]

Damn they look good, will have to find the time to try this out. You're about the ones you buy in French bakeries tasting much, much better than the tosh we can get over here. Infact, most stuff like this generally tastes better on the continent I think.

grass/other side of the fence :p

Not really, they do actually taste better. The almond croissants from the local bakery where my parents live in deepest, darkest, rural France have absolutely no parallel in any English bakery I've been to, and I've searched everywhere to try and get something similar.
I'm sure that's the case but point is, once you're there you'll think of something back here you preferred, not specifically food :)

True, however most of the supermarkets where my parents live have an 'English section', god knows why you would want to go near them though when there is so much awesome fresh French fare on offer.

It's their national coisine, obviously they're better at it.

I like to see you get a good steak and ale pie or cornish pasty in France. Or black pudding, or fish and chips or... well, you get the idea :)

Might have a crack at this with some ready made puff pastry, I don't trust my pastry making abilities! Could you freeze them before you cook them to save for later?

Not tried it myself but I believe you can freeze egg washed croissants in freezer bags. To have them for breakfast you'd need to remove the required amount from the freezer the night before and let them defrost on a baking tray overnight.
Make sure you buy all-butter pastry :p

Assume these wouldn't last more than 2 days after cooking?

I'm unsure if me and my cat could polish off 20 of these in that time without some serious consequences...
Probably going to try giving this a go this weekend though!

Looks nice.. how about a picture of a Pain au chocolat that has been cut open? :)
Oh, and also a picture of one of the croissants that has been sliced/ripped open. I'd like to see the layers.
