Balanced volume control with dual gang pot?

I have a single channel, that I need to wire up a volume pot to.

Now, how do I go about this? I'm assuming reduce the voltage on hot and cold while keeping ground common on both input and outputs?

You could do it that way i suppose, but normally you would unbalance the input then re-balance the output, either via transformers or electronic balancing with op-amps/line drivers

I'm trying to keep it simple... Basically I'm trying to put a volume control on one of the channels between a DCX2496 and a PA amp...

I also want to keep the signal balanced as I'm doing a longish run of signal cable, and want to avoid background noise.

Well you could do it your way - it would work, but any tracking differences on the pot will manifest as phase differences - which would reduce the benefit of having a balanced system.

Hmm, I didn't think about that...

I guess I may just see how it sounds unbalanced with a single gang pot for now...

It's a subwoofer only channel, so noise may not be an issue afterall...
