Before anyone gets their hopes up, yahoo have a curious method of reporting scientific 'breakthrough' in that they wait until the experiment has been replicated a few times, then hail the latest replication as a 'breakthrough' despite the fact that its been done before. Also, many 'breakthroughs' are no-where near reaching the market or clinic, if they ever will...

But my question IS...

If there was a baldness cure, would you use it?

I have grown almost USED to being folically challenged, and I don't believe it really effects me anymore due to the fact that really confidence is 10x more important than having hair and I think I have overcome any confidence issues.

I'm used to being bald now, I'm 25 in a few months and have been shaving my head since I was 18 due to baldness. I do miss my curls and hair I can style though.

I used to have long hair, then i got married and for the past ten years ive been balding at a rate of knotts.

Doesnt bother me, the only thing i miss (and dont tell anyone its a secret) is when i first started riding motorbikes i had long grungy hair with a fringe that used to cover my face, and when i used to take my helmet off i used to make a big play about shaking my hair out and sweeping it out of my face.

Kind of cool when you where 18 and a good looking mofo like i am. ;)

It doesn't give much information but given that I know next to nothing about how it would be used it sounds like it may have a bit of potential to go wrong if you are altering cells just to prevent/cure what could be seen as a relatively minor and natural problem.

Personally I doubt I'd bother with a baldness cure or a syrup even if I was going bald which doesn't seem tremendously likely at the moment given my dad is over 50 and can still have a ponytail.

isn't baldness inherited from the mothers side though?

nope, all my mums family have fine heads of hair and thats going back 4 generations because I've heard another tale that baldness skips one generation :p

Baldness doesn't run in our family, so I should be fine \o/

I don't necessarily think it's a style thing though. What if you're a big businessman who does a lot of travelling to other companies? You may have a certain hair style, which whilst it wouldn't bother you personally to lose it, it's what other people recognise you and your business with. Not saying it happens often, just something I would imagine could? Hehe, I'm an idiot :p

Then there's Jimmy Carr's theory.

"Did you real in Scientist Monthly that they believe baldness is down to too much male hormone? My advice to you: Stop Swallowing" :p

i heard that when i was very young thinking 'oh good'. that was because my grandad had a full head of hair at 75 and my dad was bald at 26. unfortunately i started balding in my early 20s too...... :p

Been lucky so far, mums entire family on the male side started at 17ish and were completely bald by 23 with just the sides, my dads still got a full head and i'm way past the 'danger' years with no hair loss..

I used to worry about getting gray hairs, now I wish I had more of them.

I probably wouldn't use any product to restore growth even if it was stupidly cheap and easy to use. Unless I was the only one left without hair.

I certainly wouldn’t go for a cure now. Perhaps maybe if one had been available when I started to thin out – dunno . I had long hair in my teens which got progressively shorter as my motorbikes got faster. It started to go when I was in my mid twenties and as I had always had a thing about not having a parting just above my ear and having to walk into the wind sideways, I cropped the lot. Been a no.1 shave all over for years now.

Some guys say they began to lose great clumps of hair and it would be on the pillow in the morning or they would find loads of it when they washed it. I don’t remember it being like that I just sort of started thinning and receding.

If i was bald, id want a cure, I cant imagine much things worse than going bald, your not even allowed to cling onto what you have left anymore, society deems its shorn to the wood.

That said theres a guy at my gym who is bald in the front and middle, but has long hair past his shoulders at the sides and back, and it looks totally ridiculous.

Im quite sure anyone who is bald, being completely honest with themselves and given the option would rather than their hair back.

Not at all but then I'm in my late 40's now so I have lived with out for almost as long as I lived with it.

ROFL what a tool. I'd love to see that. That's worse than the dreaded comb over.

Yep I would have it back in an instant! :(

Actually gave up the fight yesterday of my thinning thatch...Clippers out No1 all over..

Now look like an Alien

Can't wait for work tomorrow, clients are going to love it. Not.

I'm losing hair already and I'm only 17. But I don't think I'd use some kind of 'cure', I'm just going to put up with it. I'm just hoping I don't lose it all too quickly.
