Baldur’s Gate 3 | OT |

I re-rolled a Paladin and it’s a lot better now. Didn’t realise that it’s not just about killing stuff so I died a few times just doing that and ignoring the objective. Diablo it ain’t!

I started a rogue and struggling a bit. Very early on though and I have no clue yet what everything does or works. Having a beer is not helping either!
Man. I’m like , 4 doubles down, and even I can grasp what’s going on :D

Edit. Yes. It is not Diablo. It’s game about chance, and the roll of the dice (most times!)

Edit again - keep playing. You’ll get the gist of it. Talk to everyone. :p

Wow. Edit again. I’m playing wizard and having no troubles at all. I’m a smooth talker though..

I’ll give it a good session over the weekend. It’s so different to anything I’ve played before so I’m having to adjust to that. Loving how it looks and I am still very intrigued by it all.

Im about 14 hours in so far…still quite overwhelmed with what’s going on, still no clue what everything does etc

Does it ever ‘click’ with these games?

Enjoying it a lot though minus the clueless parts - I think it could do with a bit more hand holding for beginners to the genre.

Got a bug on an early act 1 quest. I’ll put it in spoiler.

the burning houses you come across, after leaving the grove. Cannot remember the name but you gotta save some dude upstairs trapped under a beam. Every time I’d knock the door down, and try talking to him the beam would re-fall on his head, knocking him out and starting combat. Skipped it
In the end. .

I knocked the difficulty down a peg and I am having a much better time of it. Some of the encounters were tough for me early on. I love the character interactions and the narration it’s very cool.

Seemingly small buffs, debuffs etc make a big difference. Just adding a point to your armour class makes a big difference. A common mistake is focussing to much on dealing damage without anything supporting those damage rolls, so you end up using up your spell slots and only hitting half of your attacks. Use the buff, debuff, support spells to your advantage.

Early act 1 spoiler

finally got past the goblin camp. Killed all three leaders, rescued volo, and Halsin rescued himself. Once I killed the last goblin leader I fast travelled outta there no way was I running that gauntlet back out lol. Everyone was hostile by the third leader battle !

I went there and got wrecked so used an older save to go back and finish off some of the side quests. I actually found 2 new crew members who I had missed first time around.
I’m only just level 4. Basically BS’ed my way in, stealth killed the first leader, battled the second (this was most difficult), and left the red horned guy til last. (There’s a ladder just outside the room he is in, that leads up to the upper gangways) basically went up there and cheesed him with bows/crossbows :D

Yeah I hit level 4 this morning. I am going to explore the entire map or where I can go to at least, mop up side quests then go back to the goblin camp. This game is going to take a while and I’m in no rush.

Worth remembering as well this is a game that is very replayable, your path through will change depending on your character class, background, and how you play. There are companions and story lines that change significantly or are not accessible depending on your choices. For example:

You can get Minthara to join you as a companion, but to do this you must betray the druids and help Minthara wipe out The Grove, after which some of your companions will leave permanently in disgust of your actions. You'll also need to rescue Minthara from Moonrise Tower. Obviously if you help the druids Minthara won't be available as a companion, as you will have killed her.
