Baldurs Gate First time player

Got the Orignal Baldurs gate 5 disc edition all boxed with FAT manual in mint condition on the shelf behind me :)

Never did get right to the end, seems like so long ago since i played it now, reading this is making me want to reinstall the beast .. :)

Another noob question.
My thief died and i cant seem to bring her back, ive picked up her gear she left behind. Ive gone to a temple to see if i can resurrect her but its blanked out in red, ive got enough gold though.
Also whats the point of donating gold in the temples?

anyone?:)

Dunno then, if I die I just re-start from the last save. Due to the amount my party dies and the places I end up wandering into (Ulcaster Dungeon at lvl 2 & basilisk forest) It's taking me awhile

Same it's been quite a few years since i've played 'em, 'bout time for a new playthrough. Will have to find these widescreen mods.

I was about to jump in to this thread and go all raving Fanboy! :o It seems I've been beaten here. :(;)

My own personal choice for hardcore Tutu run of BG1 would be a Monk, if that is possible? I'm sure it'd be tough going, but by BG2 you're pretty much fire and forget!

I had the big box version for the Apple Mac. Sold it on eBay several years ago and almost made my money back, even then. :D

I must meet them:eek::D

Mind your eyes...

Same, not sure if the manual is in the box atm and I know the card wallet isn't, but its all around somewhere. Think I must have 2/3 copies of this game.
I still remember the manual having all the snipey little comments from Volo/Elminster throughout.

Shame they dont put so much attention/care into game packaging etc these days.

I remember trying BGII on a high spec machine and remembering that it seemed to go nuts. Is there any updates for BGII (to allow it run in a higher resolution for example)?

1) How long will it take to finish them all, as i understand its a pretty big game.

2) recommend me a class, im leaning towards fighter

3) Any good online walkthroughs

4) tell me why i should be playing this game:)

1)35-40 hours per game

2) I Went with Fighter-Mage-Thief(Tri-Class).

3) pfft only woofies Need Walkthroughs!

4) The Story's good and Jon Irenicus in the second game is probably the best Villian ever to have been concieved.

"I cannot be caged! I cannot be controlled! Understand this as you die, ever pathetic, ever fools!"

"The curse that was wrought against Bodhi and I has ceased, and yours has begun. You will wither, you will wane, and you will die."

What's the name of the mods that make the game run nicely with today's computers? Added resolution support, etc.?

I'm sure that I heard somewhere that there was something like this for all of the games that used the same engine as BG1&2

EDIT: You may want to try a higher roll for wisdom as it effects your saving throws, but as a fighter i reckon you'll be alright on that roll. Intelligence is pretty worthless unless you are a mage so its fine putting it down to 3.

I think wisdom shouldnt be below 8 as with intel.

Wisdom and intelligence are worthless for a fighter so ive used the points to max out the important stats:)

Id spend some time reading the manual, i cant remember how the rules work with BG but having a high(er) intel might give you access to better things.

As above, don't use a walkthrough, you'll spoil it for yourself. This isn't Final Fantasy, where using a walkthrough is almost essential (2nd play through of any FF game I always use one, or you miss a good 20% of the content).

Using a walkthrough in BG isn't required. The only hint I'd give a new player is to explore all the zones when you get the chance; a lot of them aren't part of the main story ark so if you were to just follow the story you'd miss them all. BG1 this applies to most, BG2 is a lot more linear, iirc.

Gibberlings Widescreen mod. I got it up and running at 1900x1200 (or whatever that resolution is) last night :).
