So, I recently got 5 mates together to play this brilliant old game online, I'm planning to 'DM' the campaign (as much is possible with BG2), and hopefully it should be a great laugh (inspired by the Penny Arcade DnD podcasts).

However we're having some problems setting up the multiplayer server. I'm trying to host it and getting major problems, and I wondered if anyone has tried to play this game online recently and run into problems also?

At first I thought the problem was my router (Belkin G), but after forwarding the right ports (to the right I.P), and also setting up a DMZ - it still doesn't work, which is impossible, but there you go.

Secondly I thought it was a patch issue, but we were all on the same patch - so I don't see how it can be this.

I got it working with one other person last night and I thought it was all working, but now without changing anything, we can't get it working again.

It's failing when it tries to connect to the I.P you give it for the host server I think.

Any ideas?

Have you tried the obvious one with the multiplayer speed settings? They all need to be the same (Youve probably already sorted that though).

Thats the only thing i can think of that would effect the game apart from hardware route problems.

Hope you get it working, its a fantastic game to play multiplayer... i am very jelious as ive not played it with other people for years.

AH yes I understand now, frame rates and such. Ok we tried that and still no luck :(

Yeh there is an option in the config called game speed. The default is 30, maybe you could try everyone on 40, i seem to remember playing it on that setting for some reason, i didnt start up the server so im not sure why we were set to 40.

Can you bypass your router at all?
Game like BG are so old now that even resetting you computer and hardware can have magical effects and make things work/stop working.
