Baldurs Gate - Steam & New Version Thread

@some dude: There will be two games. Baldur's Gate: Enhanced Edition and Baldur's Gate II: Enhanced Edition #bgee=BG+TotSC, bg2ee=bg2+ToB

ZOMG ! I nearly fell off my chair !!!!

I need little persuasion to have another BG play-through so I know what I'll be doing this summer :) Awesome that it's both games with their expansion packs as well.

I deffo wouldnt want a BG3 if they made it as bad as NWN, Dark Alliance, or DA2.

What a lot of people dont realize before demanding sequels is that sequels are rarely ever as good as the game before it was. BGII was one of the minority of games that was better than its predecessor, a BG3 game woulDnt exactly be any better if for example it was made by the current Bioware / EA.

The reason why people want a remake of BG1+2 is because they want a 100% identical in every possible way game that just looks better (top down 2D games can be made with fancy modern 3G graphics, but no one rarely ever makes them).

Its surprising that Diablo had such an impact that lots of companies started making clones of the game, and we even have Diablo III out soon, but there was never anything similar for BG, the series pretty much died when Wizards of the Coast handed over their official licencing to Atari, and they started pouring out a crapstorm of lame (in comparison to BG) 3D NWN games.

Going to install BGII+TOB and finally get around to completing them both :D.

And Dark Alliance was an awesome game to be honest, although Dark Alliance 2 was a disappointment.

I hope that they dont 'balance' I.E nerf any of the classes from the original games, nor simplify the dual class / multiclassing system. I have a bad feeling that they will try to 'streamline' everything, and nerf swashbucklers and kensais :(

Team include the original Baldur's Gate developers, according to the blurb. I wouldn't mind them tweaking stuff if they know what they're doing. I'm sure they all have things they wish they'd done differently.

Can't be many developers get to go back and make a game over again.

I want to put this here so I can quote myself on release. They are going to huff it up royally.

"remain true to the spirit of the game" -- translated: "we're putting in flame-throwers and jump jets. wizards are being replaced with a playable race of vampire sparkle dragons."

"re-forged ... with a variety of modern improvements" -- translated: "we're changing everything. the bits you didn't like? gone. the bits that made you weep with joy? gone too. but we now have sparkle vampire dragons..."

BG needed a HD update. Nothing else.

But now it's got a new team of people all interested in changing it to fit a modern audience.

/sigh. It's going to be another Dragon Age (II)
