I've just started playing through the Baldur's Gate series for the first time (just reached Nashkel).
My question is regarding the TOSC expansion for BG1.
Can I install it now before finishing BG1 will it add extra content, or should I complete BG1 and then install it?
Which will give me the best BG 'experience'?

I would have installed it before starting. It just adds 4 locations to the world map and quests associated with them. Plot wise I think it makes sense to do them before completing the main game. A couple of them are tough for lower levels though.

ToSC doesn't add much to the overall story of the game, it's really just some new areas/side quests (albeit big fun ones!). I'd install it ASAP so that the areas are always there. As mentioned above, you may not want to go there straight away though as you need pretty high level characters.

Edit: Plus it changes some of the rules for balance reasons, and gives you more character build options (AFAICR).

I'd don't think TotSC introduces any new classes, but if you play it through BGtutu you can use all the BG2 classes. TotSC just cries out for a good Swashbuckler:)
