Grrrr-my PC has decided that all sorts of fun failures would be a bit of a laugh again and, surprisingly, it was my Ballistix RAM yet again!!! I will be RMAing the stuff for the 4th time and am getting pretty fed up with it! I dont even overclock the stuff!!!

If not overclocking then Ballistix is over-kill anyway tbh.

Flog the sticks when you get them back and get something a little more reliable. It's what i did after my 4th RMA.

They're great, but they're a PITA at times.

On my old DDR1 build, I had x2 512Mb sticks of Ballistix and had to RMA them twice. Strangely, out of the 2 sticks, it was only 1 that was playing up each time, the other was the original from when they were first purchased.

Yep Just installed my 4gb ocz ram
My ballistix is sat on top of my case waiting to go back after a strongly worded email.this is my 4th set and will NEVER buy ballistix again.

you cant fault their RMA process just wish i didnt have to use it bet i've spent just as much on postage as the things cost to replace now

Oh well new ram seems good

Cool cool, so what would you recommend? I did overclock the first set, then gave up when I realised they were unreliable as sin. I was thinking of going for the OCZ platinum 6400, but would ideally like 2x512mb sticks and 2x1gb sticks (want to be running 3gb as only have Vista 32bit). Or is it just worth going with the 4gb OCZ set and losing out a little?

I got my 2nd set back and running then stock @ 800Mhz 444 12. Ive had to up the voltage to +0.2v. I bought a 2nd set so I didnt have to live without a pc, but I'm not putting them in together till it seems safe to do so. I had a couple of weeks with no crashes in BF2 but then 2 in a day so thats when I upped from 0.15v to +0.2v. The only thing I overclock is my CPU.

I had all sorts of random crashes, supposedly memory related, but it turned out to be my Gigabyte motherboard which was a pile o poo, now i have an Asus P5K Premium Black Pearl and its stable as anything with 4x1GB Ballistix Tracer PC8500

I do wonder if it's the mobo-think I will buy some Geil RAM, and if it's still unstable I guess I will have to change the mobo as well...

I got fed up of my DDR Ballistix sticks back in the day, contacted OcUK and got a refund.

I can highly recommend G.Skill. I've been using there memory for awhile now, DDR and more recently DDR2. (Always the HZ kits). It's fantastic memory and I've never had any problems with it. (Perhaps just lucky). I used to really like Corsair, but G.Skill clocks better imo.

I think if you stick with Corsair, OCZ, G.Skill you can't go wrong. I never went back to Ballistix when mine broke.

Since both my Tracer kits broke (2x2x1Gb) I went to corsair and they are brill, in my other pc I'm running OCZ, again flawless. Never going with crucial again tbh.

I have just RMA'd my crucial Ballistix tracer 2x1GB back to OCUK after it racking up constant errors on memtest within an hour. They have sent it back as no fault found and after memtesting for 40 hours ! and they charged me £10.00. Borrowed a friends dominator ram while mine was being tested and it didnt give any errors, have plugged the ballistix back in my setup again and within 30 minutes of memtest, errors again. Could it be voltage? or should I just sell it and get something else? not happy tbh. am using IP35 pro motherboard, with Q6600 quad.
Thanks

If it was me, i would get shot of them as fast as possible. None of us needs or want's the sort of grief that this stuff gives us.

Return them to Crucial, not OcUK.

It's strange how some people have been through four sets of Ballistix while others have had no problems.

Clearly there is (or was) a problem but it doesn't seem to effect everyone?

I have many builds running at the moment using different Crucial memory, Mostly the regular vanilla stuff but also there is a few sets of DDR/DDR2 Ballistix and a set of Tracers and so far so good.

I have had to RMA some Ballistix in the past but since then everyting has been fine?

Wonder whats up? Crucial are one of the best memory manufacturers in the world?

I re-ran the memtest for the dominator over night 8 hours and not a single error.. Thanks I think ill try Cruial see what they have to say.. anyone had any dealings with them before? are they helpful?

They are the best in the business, shame their memory isn't. I reckon its a voltage thing personally. I've got some in HTPC at 1.9v which has been there for years, I've also got 4gb in my main pc and put 2.1v through it and had to RMA twice now.
