Who deserves it so far?

I'm assuming you mean the award for best player at the Word Cup.

My choice will probably suprise many people, and there is no chance he will actually get it due to the position he plays. His team haven't even been that amazing either:

Willy Sagnol

He's been awesome this tourny, I've never really paid much attention to him before but he's been winning loads of tackles, supporting the attack well, passing excellently, and getting Thuram out of trouble on numerous occasions.

Lol, I was thinking exactly the same! I've noticed how well he's been playing aswell. :) He won't win it though, I expect Klose (or someone else who has scored a few goals) will win it.

I really can't think of anyone whose particularly stood out (and been consistent about it) during the WC though - maybe I'm having a mind blank. :(

Gianluca Zambrotta has been the best/most consisitently good player ive seen. He's a 100 percenter and unlike other Italians, he can take a tackle.

He's only had 1 good game .

I've realised during the WC just how unbelievably short sighted football fans are in general, I remember in one of the group matches Zidane played absolutely pants!

So many players have a few good games (or bad) and people assume they are crap.

Fernando Torres was pretty tidy during the tournament I thought, also Sergio Ramos - I thought he was pretty effective in the right back position. :)

I'm not sure if you are agreeing or disagreeing with me .

radikal_dj, the first 2 french games were terrible, everyone including Zidane played stinkers. The other games admittedly he has played ok and got a goal but no outstanding performance at all apart from his last game. For someone to get the award they should in my opinion play excellently in every single game.

Ferdinand could be in for a shout as he was class in defence, although its not usually something that would be given to defenders.

At the moment I'd say Zambrotta as mentioned above. However, I think something will happen in the semis and final that will decide who the best player is...

Strange thinking about it though. There hasn't really been anyone that has stood out head and shoulders above the rest!
