For extra man points fill all the balloons with calor gas, or maybe nitrous oxide

For a mates 18th me and some pals ordered a blow up doll (the sex kind), pushed it through his letterbox and inflated it with a bike pump in the dead of night. His mum was most displeased

Remember doing something simliar to a friends room whilst living in halls. It takes a surprisingly lot longer than any of us had expected.
Also, I can most definitely recommend using cable ties (or something similar) otherwise you'll have extremely sore fingers afterwards.

for what your doing, having giant columns really wouldnt help. however, it would have taken three of them four hours to inflate 2500 balloons, so depending on how many gas cylenders you can use at a time, the best your looking at is 3 hours, since you can just tie them up individually. worst case would be over two days. also, balloons dont generally last very long, so your going to have to time this pretty well
