So... I bought BF3 last week, happy days.

Wouldn't think a small thing like OS would matter - but I find out after Origin is installed, BF3 doesn't support Windows XP!

WTF!?!!!?!

Had to express my sadness on here.

Super Sad Face, Depressing Christmas...

Am I the only one that this has happened to?

:(

Dear Santa,

Please could you give me a copy of Windows 7 - 64bit would be great, and also give me some more ram too.

Hmm... how to do it on the sly without wife finding out I am spending the dosh on 'computer stuff'? :P

I was hating switching from the trusty XP but in truth imo win7 is sweet as chocolate and easy to use. Very easy switch over :D

Same happened to me with BF3, I was spitting feathers cos I only had XP too.
I had an old copy of Vista laying around so just used that as I didnt want to buy Win7 just for BF3. I compute day to day on XP. So now got a dual boot with XP and Vista.

Any real difference in real world gaming performance Vista vs Win 7?

I say that because someone has a copy of Vista going for a tenner, so I wouldn't mind going for that to play BF3

Your still on xp? what graphics card you got. After all, if your going to upgrade OS be aswell getting a good dx11 card for bf3 beauty :P

My machine is proper low-end, so I'd turn settings down to the lowest they can go, and probably do it at 800x600 :P

AMD X2 5600+ (2.8ghz)
3 GB Ram DDR2
HD 3850 512MB
(And of Course WinXP)

Keep toying with the idea of upgrading, but the wife would have me by the balls ;)

No offense mate but id think your going to struggle to run it tbh.

Dont worry about the wife, best thing to do is order the parts then worry after ;)

This

BF3 will eat that 5830 and **** it out again in 2 seconds. 512mb VRAM I fear won't cut the mustard. People are saying 1024mb cards are pushing it, although I amnage to get decent performance on high settings with a 6870, tried ultra and the frame rate got murdered

If you think that's bad, I've only just bothered to upgrade my specs for the first time after all these years. I had (from release):

AMD Athlon 3200
Radeon 9700
1GB RAM
Windows XP

To be fair, I only used it for browsing so it was fine. Starting to play games more now so I've got myself a nice i7 system. :)

XP is over 11 years old now I'm afraid. That's the same timeline as being on Win 3.1 when XP came out!

(Daft example used for comic effect).
