Balltefield 2 vs COD 4 - who plays which and why ?

COD4.

Mainly because no matter what ranked server I play BF2 on, my stats don't increase. I've been stuck at PFC with no unlocks for over two years now, and that's with over 2000 hours played on ranked servers alone.

I Play BF2

dont play CoD4 much because its just a spam and nade fest.

What happens if you make a new account? you get the same problem?

Yeah! Been like this since day one. Numerous new accounts, totally different PC's and ISP's and yet the same thing occurs. After many months of contact, even EA support gave up on the problem and basically told me "tough luck"!

CoD4, it runs sweet as a nut on my PC. Loved the SP game, so moving onto MP was a must. Very easy game to get into, love the weapons, perks, addons, game variations and atmosphere, although i'm yet to find a regular server to play with a great bunch of players (I've been playing on the same server for 5 years in RTCW which has a superb community)

Not tried Battlefield 2 so i can't comment :(

Also Norway

When the Armed Forces train its soldiers with "Battlefield 2" is not the number of killed that apply, but how well the team work together and interpret large amounts of information in a short time.
Photo: TV 2 Interactive (EA)

(Spillmagasinet): Krigsspillet "Battlefield 2" can be purchased in any spillbutikk, but are not just innocent fun.

-- "Battlefield 2" is cheap and easily available, and we've been testing out the possibilities and limitations of it, "says Deputy Head of befalsskolen, captain Morten Hougen, to Spillmagasinet.

MORE FROM SPILLMAGASINET.NO:

It is the Air officer school in (some place) who have taken the new methods being used to achieve learning by the officer school, writes Defensenet on their home pages. The objective of the training is to teach skills that officers rely on out in the field.

And then there's no weapons knowledge or the team to have hijacked the most flag that question.

-- We have used the game as a desicion trainer, not to focus on tactics. We have looked at how the soldiers read a situation, process the amount of information in a short time, and what decisions he takes. Leadership, planning, situational awareness, communication and decision-making is important, "he says.

"Rules of engagement" applies even in a computer game. *** officers students can not shoot loose on everything that moves.
-- As a role-playing game

Players that would like to measure the forces with The officers on the digital battlefield, will be disappointed. Captain has no plans to submit a troop in Norwegian in "Battlefield 2" with the first.

-- No, we have set up our own servers so there are not many other lunatic who is running around. We are playing in a slightly different way and play out certain scenarios with specific roles. In reality, we have what is called rules of engagement and you shoot for example, not on anything that moves. Soldiers need to deal with the orders that are given, "explains Hougen.

Will continue with the game

Both fresh officer students and experienced soldiers are positive for the game after the test period, and that there is a focus on collaboration and decision-making.

"Battlefield 2", however, have major limitations, and the Armed Forces are considering the military develpoed game "Virtual Battlespace 2" for further training.

-- Games and simulators are being used more and more in the military. It provides realistic training and is cost-effective. Price was an important point in the pilot, a license for "Virtual Battlespace 2" will cost nearly 10,000 kroner. The advantage is much greater freedom in programmable so that we can tailor the scenarios, to provide a variety of vehicles selected equipment and the like. It is not possible with "Battlefield 2".

-- We have requested a license for Virtual Battlespace 2, "but we have not taken a decision on it yet. We shall now consider what we do on, but it is not impossible that the "Battlefield 2" is used in large-scale, "says Captain

Note that the Virtual Battlespace Series is the full fat military variant of Armed Assault (son of Operation Flashpoint), also (I believe) used bythe Dutch Army. While the graphics may lag behind the BF and COD series the scale of the Arma maps and editor flexibility (plus strong mod community).

From my FPS experience (I'll save you the details, but anyone remember SpecOps ?) I end up playing COD4 and BF2 when I feel like being part of a film or doing some killing for a quick fix, but play Arma when I want to feel more part of a bigger picture - a sort of tactical vs strategic thing. As a previous poster noted, some maps can feel crowded - I gave up on CSS since it seemed all too often to end in a mad dash to the choke points, quick firefight then bomb plant/defuse. Maybe being older than most other players with quicker reflexes just makes me slower to the draw and so I die a lot.

Now if we could get the graphics of COD4 with the squad comms and gameplay of BF2 set on maps and mods from Arma (which is much improved and modded since release), now that would be something (CGI aside, maybe OF2 is the next contender ?).

Apart from private servers, how do I play for fun with no weapon unlocks?

haha dont you find the unlocks kinda boring lol, everyone uses them i most often use stock weapons their as good as the unlocks.
Also i have started playing Battlefield Pirates 2 which is massive fun once you got a few people on. A good laugh all day really, also much easier to play.

bf2 'feels' better than cod4 on a decent server, and the spamfest on cod4 is unforgivable, artillery in bf2/2142 were annoying enough but are nowhere near as bad as cod4.

Neither recreates the magic that is the origional cs in my eyes though.

COD 4 really does suffer from small rubbish maps..

No where need as good as cod2. especially the d-day landing map. What was it called something beech head...

Playability / Feel of BF2
Visuals of COD4

Difficult to decide for me.

I cant wait for BF3 thats for sure, but I hope its not going to do to me what UnReal tournament did... I waited for UT2007/III since the dawn of time andwhen it came, it was pretty, but just didnt deliver the goods at all... Ended up back on UTClassic & 2K4 most of the time.

If I had to chose one then I could not.

Multi = BF
Single = COD

Hated BF2's nade spam, dolphin diving and the abusers.

Hate CoD4's public servers, with all the perks, airstrikes and helis.

Not played BF2 competitively so i can't really give a fair opinion but CoD4 wins hands down.

www.tmgamers.com - My current team, site is relatively empty (just been put up)

I love COD4 on smaller servers. It's still fast paced and intense but doesn't dissolve into a nade fest.

BF2 is just too slow paced for me although I do enjoy playing with some mates every now and then.

Try playing CoD 4 on a 64 player server, its a real laugh ._.

My best kill streak was 31 when I managed to survive about 20 seconds. I was prone with the LMG firing at a spawn point. People literally spawn inside each other non stop, if you swing your knife instantly you are guarenteed to kill about 3 people. Its insane.

It's a mad dash of people trying to walk forward, spin around, go prone and start mowing down people on the spawnpoint.
