I have banana plugs and I can't get them to fit into my mission m71i's or yamaha rx-v100d :S.

Any ideas/advice?

Was just about to create a thread myself on this, but for a NADC25BEE the plugs dnt fit in the back of the amp, I guess im just going to have cut them off and just have bare wire in the back?

Hmm, looking at them can you not pull out the bits in the middle. I seem to remember manufacturers when H&S mad when someone in Europe stuck one in a live socket once so they started making them difficult to put banana plugs in.

If they are new they will have stoppers in them (this is due to the EU making all speaker & amp makers putting these in to prevent people from other EU countries trying to plug their mains plugs into the back of their amp/speaker for some strange reason ) you may be able to pull said stoppers you with a pair of small long nose pliers or use a small self tapping screw, screw it in slightly & pull gently & said stopper will come out, job done.

proof below

The design came as a result of amendments to the European safety standard BS\EN600 65 for consumer electronics, which effectively bans the use of the 4mm 'banana' type plug commonly used for connecting loudspeakers to amplifiers. The reasoning behind the prohibition of cable-mounted 4mm (and smaller-sized) plugs is that they can be inserted into a European mains socket with possibly fatal consequences.

Okay thanks for the info ;).

Just cut mine in the end, im going to order some longer speaker cable at some point so this will make do for now! Loving my setup so far might have get DAC tho ;)

type of connection to plug speakers into amp is it not?

Sure is.

Just makes things a little more tidy and the added benefit of quick removal if you need to do so. :)

so would you plug the speaker wire into that, and then that into the connections into the amp, does those banana plugs plug into 'normal' speaker wire connections then? where you should just normaly shove in the wire manualy as it were?

I think something is wrong somewhere - I've plugged loads of different banana plugs into loads of different bits of kit and never had a problem.

The banana plugs go straight into the terminal, they might be a little tight but thats good imo. Make sure you tighten the terminal screw cap down first and then make sure you don't have a little red or black plastic cap in the middle. If you've got the little cap it just pops out with your fingernail or some pliers.

It's where the little cap is that the banana plug plugs into, not at the side where you would connect plain bare cable.

If it still doesn't fit then it'll either be a dodgy banana plug or the terminal isn't designed to take a banana plug in the first place, but most hi-fi gear is designed to take banana plugs. Some gear just has a little spring clip for holding speaker cable but that's usually just little stereo's and stuff from the usual high street electrical retailers.

It's because I've got BFA connectors :S. They will fit into my amp but I'll have to buy some 4mm bananas for connecting to my speakers.

Do you mean you can unscrew and remove the black/red cap on the speaker terminal?

If so then that is normal, you would normally just tighten those down, remove the little plastic stopper thing (if present) covering the centre hole and then plug in the banana plug into the centre hole.

I was told by the guy I bought it off: There will either be some small plastic pieces that need to be eased out of the holes, or there will be plastic pieces covering the holes that the plugs should push through with a little bit of force.

Have you managed to sort it yet, jmhduck?

Maybe it would be better to take a photo of the back of your amp so we can see what's going on there. If all else is correct, then all I can think of is that the banana plugs are defective.

Thanks for asking ;). I've not got round to sorting it out, I'm gonna wait until I set the system up at uni to try again. If I experience any problems I'll let you guys know ;).
