It's no doubt been said a thousand times here, but this show really does deserve all the love.

I must have re-watched it 5-6 times now and it never looses it's shine. The performances are incredible and the sense of pace throughout the series is truly magnificent. That last monologue from the vets... ball my eyes out each and every time.

Yeah still rates in my all time top 3 shows.

Breaking Bad
Band of Brothers
The Wire

I heard a rumour some years ago now that they were making a similar series based on the 8th Air Force in WW2, the group who did the daylight bombing raids across Europe but I can't seem to find anymore information on it which is a shame.

One of the best shows ever made.

Read the book and watched the 10 part series many times.

Ep09 Liberation of the Concentration camp, if that doesn't move you in some way your not human, very powerful.

Not many of them still alive now...think Malarkey's still with us.

Always wanted to meet them, modern day hero's!

The project has been dogged by issues becasue of the scale of the special effects required but I have two very good friends who supply uniforms, equipment and military vehicles to film projects and they were very busy with this during last year as apparently some stuff was being refilmed (They had to effectively film Fury twice because the sets turned into a quagmire after unseasonally heavy rains and it destroyed continuity so it's not unheard of to revisit earlier filmed material and change it).

Not long finished watching Generation War on Netflix. Its not 100% soldier focussed like BoB is, but its brilliant nonetheless, telling the German side of the war on the Russian Front. Grim beyond belief.

Excellent news - thanks for that little tit bit. Will keep me happy for a while.

I preferred The Pacific, myself.
I'd read a couple of the source books by Sledge and Leckie, so I picked up on a lot of the more subtle details they included in the show.
BoB was a bit too 'herioc' in the presentation.

I'm also a former mortar gunner, so there was some affinity with the guys there anyway.

Mallen, Skillman or Almond, by any chance? :)

I watch it every year over Christmas. Up there with The Wire for me. Shows i can just watch over and over.

I'd also recommend Generation Kill - follows a US marine unit during the 2003 Iraq invasion and is made by the same guys that did The Wire. It's pretty light on action and very dialogue driven, but it's fantastic.
