Anyway to limit a download to a certain ammount of kb/sec? so that you can still pro game with a low ping <50

thanks in advance.

5 or 10kbs thats what I used to do but it was pointless as it would take ages to dl & then I'd just stop it. The best Idea is to DL what you want then play :D unless its torrents then it zaps ya bandwidth on a DL but if its just upleading its fine of 5/10kbs up

You could use net limiter to cap the download to a lowish rate, giving you a reasonable speed and steady gaming

or try

Cfosspeed, bit more advanced than net meter but setup correctly gave me a steady 60ms ping whilst downloading at about 580KB/s (line will do 600 tops) It was much better than net limiter, gives a smoother game play with a great download speed!

I was thinking about http downloads there, if using torrents cfos is the way to go as priorities packets meaning the gaming had a good and constant connection with no spikes!

most of the newsreaders and P2P software allow you to set the download and upload speeds have you looked at the options/prefernces of the download software you are using ?

Even so I find that if utorrent is running at even 5kbps upload it causes lag spikes unless cfos is running, download doesn't matter so much as theres much more bandwidth available (generally)

You've already had good answers like Netlimiter, but rather than tell us what you are not doing why not tell people what you are doing if the answers so far don't cover it?

for goodness sake i have not stated i am using torrents?
This is true also you have NOT stated what you are using yet come back with a comment like that. The advise given by people so far is based on what most people would use for downloading which is P2P or newsgroups.

Ok well you must have forgotten to click the submit button as the details were not in any of your posts.

Are you still needing help on this as you have started another thread

"Hi , we have a belkin router wireless jobby , going to be off to university soon so taking my computer. Without the router having a connection to a main desktop computer , will it be able to still be used by her laptop thats wireless?

or will she need to be plugged into it or another pc plugged in."

Which sounds like you will be leaving the router with your girlfriend.

If you are then can you post the make model of router also firmware version.
