I finished building my pc last night. When i tired to boot it for the first time all i got was a bang. I didn't see a spark because i was in front of the pc.
I googled it and it said it could be a faulty psu. Is there anything i could have done wrong?
Everything looks okay to the eye but could it have damaged any components?

By the sounds of it, you should be able to smell what went bang inside your PC. I suspect a capacitor has blown some where - does anything rattle in your case when you shake it? If it is your PSU, lets hope it took one for the team and nothing else is wrong.

Take the PC apart and check that the wiring isn't frayed which could have caused a short if it was touching the motherboard/graphics card or anything.

XFX are decent so it shouldn't have affected your other components, I suspect a wire wasn't plugged in correctly or the PSU was just bad from the start.

Look around in your computer carefully, there may be something small on the motherboard which is somewhat vaporized or on the GPU etc.

I also think the most likely cause is the power supply though.

I double checked all the wires and they all seemed to be right.
I turned the psu on first and nothing happened, it only went bang when i pressed the power button on the case. I don't know if that changes anything.

have you tried shorting the psu ? Unplug everything then on the 24 pin coming of the psu, use a paper clip or something similar, connect it to the green and any black, I usually use the 3rd and 4th wire on the clip side, and then turn the psu on, if the fan spins the psu is fine.
