I was getting rather bored of my 207, it was a nice car but "nice" gets boring after a couple of years... So I sold it, paid it off and used the change to buy and insure this -

1992 Honda Prelude 2.3l

A fair service history (last 7 years), come with 6 months tax, 12 months mot. Electric windows, sunroof, central locking, air con, cruise control. Alloys in great shape and still complete with center caps and brand new tyres all round.

It had some rust (I say some, it was holed through) on the rear arches. This is a common problem with this and a weekend's diy has fixed it (see the pics) and the 4 wheel steering keeps conking out but again it's a quick fix that I'll be doing next weekend.

Apart from that it's running fine, I've gone over it with a fine tooth comb and can't find anything that needs doing apart from an oil service some time in the next couple of months which I can do myself for ~£30.

And the cost?

£450 :D

not my cup of tea but for the money, even if it only lasts you a year your doing alright I guess. If you say you got some change for the insurance - im guessing you got violated on your premium?!

Nah, was the same as the 'Pug. New car with small engine = old car with big engine :D

For £450, awesome :)

I do have to wonder though that if you are savvy enough to run a bangernomics car, and do oil services yourself, fix rust, etc etc, what were you doing with a pile of (expensive) turd like a 207 in the first place?

Just moved in to our first house, big disposible income but naff all savings. Needed a car, liked the idea of something new so struck a good deal at the Peugeot dealer across the road. 3% apr on a car that, in the grand scheme of things, is quite good seemed ok at the time. It was reliable, cheap to run, comfortable and the interior on new pug's is a very nice place to be. It just wasn't an exciting drive.

The Prelude *should* be reliable, though I except it will need some work in the next year. It's not cheap to run, it's a pig to get in and out of with my bad back, the interior's in as new condition but, even with the awesome dash, feels dated. It is, however, very comfortable as the seats have great support and MY GOD is it fun to drive :D

Do you regret the 207?

Not sure I'd say I regret it as it was the right thing for me at the time. It was nice to not have to worry about anything. I wouldn't buy one from new, or indeed on finance, again though.

Thats not Bangernomics, all preludes that age are generally that price now, still a great buy tho:)

Good thing about these is the plentiful supply of cheap bits, that why i love my MX5 so much, pretty reliable but when it breaks, which it will, I can fix it cheaply and easily.

Ive been looking for an early prelude recently, I fancy some more pop up headlight goodness:p

If I ever decide it's not got enough power I'll drop a vtec head on it for frankenstein 2.3l vtec goodness :D

Is that possible?
if so, dooo it.

edit: a quick google reveals that the 2.3L VTEC y0 lump is only 15bhp more powerful =( how did they only manage to squeeze 150 horses out of 2.3L of VTEC goodness?

edit2: SOHC badness is the answer to my above question. but still, it's a VTEC with more torques than horses!

It's a big job but it's possible. The stuff just about bolts straight up but there's a lot that needs swapping by the sounds of it.

And the 2.3l lump with the vtec head pumps out 15-20bhp more than the standard 2.2l vtec, which has 190bhp. So that's 205bhp, plus a decent header, cat-back and a good intake 215 should be possible.

Or I could give it some booooooost :D

Awesome, enjoy, very good value for money. Will hopefully not give you any trouble either.
I love the styling on these cars.

For 500€ (450 quid) I'd buy 2 if I could get them for that price here :D ( spare parts if one breaks :)).
I would have bought a 4th gen Prelude as a first car, if they weren't 3k for the non vtec 2.3 and 4k for the vtec here :(.
