Bank fraud question

I've had a quick search and couldnt find an answer..

I have had 10 payments taken from my currant account in USA, Canada and Germany in the last week totalling £70 odd which I have only just realised has happened - What are the chances of me getting this back? My account has a Visa debit attached to it but I don't know how the money has come out yet.

I've phoned Barclays twice now and the fraud dept. is too busy to deal with me and the moment so I'm waiting for a call back :mad:, my card is not even cancelled yet so I hope no more goes out of it :rolleyes:

So, chances of me getting the money back?
 
If it's a current account I know the banks are more reluctant to help you unfortunately. This due to the money that has fraudulently been released is not theirs. Credit cards on the other hand, are a different story.
Demand that your card be cancelled immediately. Transfer all money in your account to another as soon as possible.
 
Regarding the banks statement that the fraud dept is too busy that is crap. phone again, be insistent that the fraudulent use of your card is dealt with immediately. Speak to a manager if you get no satisfaction from the CSR that you speak to.
If they will not investigate your case, transfer your remaining balance to another account and tell Barclays you will report them to the Bank Ombudsman if satisfaction is not attained.
On a cheerier note I bank with Nationwide and the time it happened to me the money was returned to my account in about 5 days.
 
Next time they try and palm you off with the fraud dept too busy line just ask how you contact the FSA to complain (Financial services authority) you'll be through to someone very helpful in no time.

Its the FOS - "Financial Ombudsman Service" you need to mention if you don't get the issue resolved by the bank - as soon as you say that you're getting them involved you'll probably find the bank will pay up - so long as it is for a small ish ammount it costs them more having to pay a member of staff to sort out all the FOS stuff than it does to simply refund you.

true, but the fsa regulates the entire financial services industry, this is enough to make them realise you'll not be fobbed off and you will get through to someone.

That's really stupid advice. I used to work beside/with a fraud department, and there were times when the people available were far too busy to do anything else. Why is his specific case more important than what the people in fraud are already working on? If the OP spoke directly to fraud, then they have no reason to lie about being busy. People who want to register complaints over something like a department being busy are much less likely to receive good service, rather they'll get the minimum required.

If you've not already done so, call lost and stolen to cancel the card and order a new one. Although fraud departments aren't always 24h, lost and stolen are.

I hope you get it sorted quickly, although if the transactions are in multiple countries you shouldn't have a problem, especially if you've used it at home during that period.

Not if your first port of call should the Financial Ombudsman Service. It would make it clear that you do not know how to complain.
