bank sort code, unique to branch?

Not every building will have a different sort code. Some are counted as sub-branches, and have the same sort code as the closest one. For example, if I put money in the branch at my uni, it actually comes up on my statement as a branch at Juniper Green.

I applied online for my savings account and it has a different sort code to my current account, i can still access it by using my normal card at my local branch though

Not neccessarily, couple of sets of branches of lloyds have the same sort code that I know of in Bristol, like Vixen said it's ones that are close together
