hi guys,
just a quick one. i'm selling my motorcycle and a chap from the Netherlands has contacted me saying he want's it and is willing to pay a deposit into my bank account as assurance he will come and collect it in 2 weeks.

i believe it's the sort code & account number you need to give people in order for them to transfer money into your account. i was told i have to give an international bank account number too, but i have no idea what mine is or whether i have one at all.

lastly, although i have an online bank account i don't do online banking. if i give this chap the above details is there any possible way he can some how rape my bank account lol, i get very paranoid about things such as this. and there is a lot of very clever people out there!
so will it be safe?

thanks :D

I know Natwest put the IBAN number on your paper statement, you'll definitely have you you may just have to ask the bank what it is and no there's very little chance of anything going wrong by handing over those details.

Yes you'll need an IBAN from your bank. You should be able to find it on a statement or their website or you can ask them. I had to get one to receive some money internationally a while back.

Regarding security, don't let him have any passwords or other personal data!

Overall does the deal sound legit to you - why wouldn't he buy a bike nearer to home?

thanks for reply tom.

thanks for response badger.
it does sound legit to me, he isn't offering me anymore than i'm asking for or anything. whether it works out cheaper for him to come and get it over here or not i don't know?

he isn't asking for any of my bank details besides the ones needed to pay money in. i just wasn't sure whether or not there is a way for someone to be able to get into my account with those numbers.

Why not just say "I'll take the bike off the market, come with cash in 2 weeks" then you dont have to worry about your bank acc details.
Or even Paypal gift a small amount to cover any advertising fees you may have stumped up.

I had a colleague sell a Harley Davison to a guy in the Netherlands. Apparently it was cheaper for him to come over, pay cash and drive it home than buying over there.

It was all cash in hand btw.
