Banking Fees -

Completely agree, people shouldn't steal the banks money by spending what isn't theirs.

Heh :p you sly one...

its a fair cop if i spend money which aint mine accidentally then by all means the bank are due recompense.
Which means they get the money i took back and they also get a fair charge back to pay for their costs for adminstration and going to the trouble and expense of telling me about it. Hehe..

In no way does it mean profiteering which is how the banks operate at the moment.

And to those who quote terms and conditions like its the Holy Bible. Its balls tbh. T & C mean didly squat if they are against the Law of the Land.

"But you know what the charges are because you signed up to it!"

When i got an account charges were £5 or £0 even which is fine by me. So i didnt sign anything which said they would be £30 or £40 quid. What they do is send you spam letters mentioning it in the small print over the years.
The catch is.....when ALL the banks do it where is the choice then? You cant leave the bank and go to another one. Having a bank account is necessary for most jobs so no option really.

Either suck it up like a good little sheep or fight back against their profiteering and preying on the misery of those they think are least able to fight them back.

BANKS
They deserve everything they got coming to them imo and considering their vast gargantuan profits its small fry really...

Couldn't agree more. I can't see why anyone would support a multi billion pound company over your average bloke and begrudge him a few hundred quid. I'll admit I was crap with money, but the bank didn't help or offer advice. They just screwed me and made my problems worse.

Why are they not fair?

They are published,

You could pick your bank by the one with the lowest charges but people don't they go for the one that gives them a free iPod/railcard or whatever.

It the fees are too high then use another bank.

I agree wholeheartedly. It didn't cost £200 for my car to be towed, but I knew the terms.

Nothing wrong with charging someone for being irresponsible, but how about a percentage of the amount they go overdrawn rather than anything up to £60 for a mistake of a few pence?

It's the size of the charges that are ridiculous, not the charges themselves.

I claimed back my charges from the Halifax, even though I closed my account last year.

So thank you very much Halifax for my copy of vista :D

You know the consumer arm of banks make up a tiny percentage of the profits/worth of a bank? Mostly they care about investment/corporate banking, because that's where the money is. In terms of overall profitability, they're not that fussed about consumer banking. That said, the business division has to make a profit, and interest rate margins above base on loans isn't enough.

Anyways, as has been said before, I manage to get my bank to actually give me money every month. So how people are managing to get their bank to take money away from them astounds me. :p

I'm in the process of claiming back just over £3500 from barclays, so yes, I disagree with those who support the banks. the charges are illegal and immoral. Word.

Just received (well, over the last 2 days) 2 £30 fines :). One dubbed a 'PAID REFERRAL', one 'COMMISSION'. So that's £60 in fines. I went £5.10 over, and do not receive monthly statements. Therefore no additional cost was incurred by the bank (admin etc), and IMO the charges are not on. I'm not alone, and thankfully people like myself are beginning to question the whole thing, and claim the money back. I was rather angry at first, and then I thought "no, wait, they're basically just looking after it for me :)".

Hmm, I wonder. Is a paid referral a charge that can also be claimed back?. £30 is a bit steep for a bounced debit request (imo, especially when the request was for £9 worth of ebay listing fees).
